^ Dont go by that. I have never heard of another build like that EVER making close 400hp.

Afr heads are definetly better then trickflow out of the box.
My thoughts exactly, 400hp from bolting on a pair of heads? I fricken wish! I think they are going my flywheel HP though, so maybe 330-340 at the wheels? Even then, that sounds pretty high...
headers, rockers, and they used a carb too.

I'd recommend Trickflow for heads. They are the best damn heads you can slap on your motor and will rock your world.

As well as you need to remember, that motor had absolutely no accessories on the front of it.

and it was an engine dyno. no drivetrain loss. AFR's are good for 100 rwhp over stock.
You show me a slip that has JUST a pair of AFR heads pulling 100rwhp out of a stock 302 with NO other mods and I will show you a fat guy who will say no to seconds. I love AFR stuff, and would have went with them over trickflow, but the trickflow kit is easier to work with and AFR heads are a lot of $$, I can always get my heads ported/polished later on lol.

Most people on here know that I am a huge AFR advocate and I don't believe for a second that they added that # in RWHP. Maybe on an engine dyno with no accessories etc. Even that is questionable..

on a 302 w/ a decent h/c/i you can expect anywhere from 280rwhp to 330rwhp. this is givin that your using stock compression pistons, and pump gas.

The wide range consist of manual or auto trans, mustang dyno or dyno jet, temperature and altitude of dyno, what front acessories you have, and how big of heads, cam and intake u go with.

A badass setup that im saving for currently is the 205cc trickflow heads, r series intake from trickflow and a custom cam, all on a 363ci dart block. should make 400+rwhp on motor and 800rwhp w/ a 76mm turbo.

Lol thats what I thought, they advertise like 65hp gain on the 165 heads, but I don't know if that's rear wheel or crank...

proof positive. look at phase 2. but on another note, you are correct. heads only on a stock auto about 40-50 hp/tq gain over stock. but who bolts heads onto a stone stock motor and is content? :eek:ccasion14:

That's with a WAY better intake too DFG :p. The stock intake flows as much as a straw, Those are very impressive numbers, and as I said, I would defiantly consider going AFR heads if I decide to build another car, as I was going to go with a Cobra intake, TFS stage 1 cam, and AFR 165 set up, but decided that the Trickflow kit was cheaper and makes decent power. You get what you pay for, and AFR are by far the best heads, but for the money better dam well be good lol.

when running afr 185 heads and stock pistons, you also have to notch the piston for the valve correct?
I have trickflows on mine, but my buddy had to notch his pistons to keep the valve from touching with afr 185's and a f303 cam.

Trick flow has 170's, 190's, 205's, 225's, 185's
The trickflow cnc185's outflow the afr185's but they cost more just goes along with the you get what you pay for saying!
A bunch of the nmra guys run the trickflow highports because of the huge power capability's and the massive intake runners.

most of the nmra classes do not allow afr heads per class rules which is why you don't see them.

you do not have to notch the pistons for the afr 185s all the time, depends on the cam and where it is installed (degree'd)

tfs tw clear but if you want to run a larger cam you need tfs tw specific pistons since the relief is in a different location

your right about the afr's being against the rules, but thats because they are cnc ported, Even if they were allowed there are way better heads out there than the afr's and twisted wedge if you have the bank to buy them!
