Today my alternator started making a horrible noise the voltage is fine . But I think the bearings are almost shot has anyone ever replaced the bearings
and if so how hard is it? and where can you get them? autozone maybe. It was very loud So loud I thought it was the transmission going out.
I am afraid the bearings will seize if I don't fix them.

years ago I rebuilt an alt and the bearings were part of the kit. The kit also included the rectifier and brushes. It's easy enough to do but the hardest thing will be keeping the brushes held back while you push the armature back in. If you find an alt. rebuild kit let us know.

It's not too hard to do, I swapped cases completely on my alt's. As mentioned the brushes are the biggest PITA.

Question, why not just buy a rebuilt alt and be done with it? If the bearings are going I am sure the rest could be ready to go very soon

Ding ding ding ding!!! We have a winner

You will thank yourself, I had swapped cases simply because mine is custom painted and would of been much happier not having to do the job
