So i am trying to clean all the junk off these bassani tail pipes but a standard wire brush isnt cutting it so i stepped to a wire wire drill attachment to knock off the rust and crap.

...here is my question.... Since i am taking off a little bit of metal, will i be removing any coating on tailpipes which protect them of the outside or can i grind alway without worrying about rust occurring faster?

if someone could get my an answer ASAP that would be Super Awesome because if these pipes are too much of a hassle to grnd down then i will just drive to bassani and buy 2 new tailpipes since they are 15 mins away

Thanks

Yes, you will be removing any sort of coating that comes on an aluminized pipe. When a pipe is aluminized it basically means it has a thin, metallic coating that is supposed to ward off rust, so stripping the pipe down with something VERY abrasive will potentially remove anything that's on the surface.

well, where the tip clamped to the tail pipe there is rust, so i wanted to remove that rust so the tip fit perfect.

i called bassani and i am just gonna go buy 2 new tail pipes for $175.... no shipping since they are 15 mins away.

i will just sell the tail pipes for someone to use.

$175? didn't you pay 150 for the catback?

if you wanted to spend another $75 you could've gotten it brand new

Probably not, I think that stuff is more shiny, like almost reflective. Might work, but I think it might look a bit cheeky.

Just my opinion.

would look like shit, aluminum paint looks nothing like polished stainless steel.

I never had the catback in the first place, and this whole story is bullshit.

Handz aluminum paint only looks "poopy" on exhaust tips, it would look great on pretty much anything else. It's just tailpipes are supposed to be somewhat shiny and paint can't match the gleam of polished metal.

i wasnt talking about paining the tips.....just the tailpipes. The tips detach from the tailpipes with clamps. Is the tail pipes that have the rust that i am taking off and think about paint.

If i dont figure this out within the hour i am going to bassani and getting the pipes cause they close at 5
