With the Rocker torqed down and the valve open should you be able to wiggle the RR back and forth? I wouldn't think so, but I can on mine. That would mean I need longer pushrods if I understand it right. Thanks.

Yeah, thats not normal.... Did you just assemble the engine? Did you swap heads? Looks like they should be longer.

Well I went to retorque them and it seems my torque wrench didnt want to click when it hit 25lbs so the bolt snapped.LOL So now i need to find another bolt for it. And get a smaller torque wrench. What a day. Its weird that only one side is doing this. Might just throw the stamped ones back on.

Shouldnt there be slight play in the rockers since they are after-all rocker rockers? They are on a shaft and need play or they may bind if Im thinking correctly

Not sure. But yes i started the car the the loud noise is coming from only one side. I notice that one of the rockers lookes like the part number on the top is being rubbed off but there is no wear on the valve cover so it must be from the previous owner of the. Im going to re torque everything and see what happens. O and a big f u to the parts guy at ford who said i couldnt find a bolt at a hardware store that would work. I did.

You keep saying torqued down. Are you torquing them to a certain spec? Or are you following the procedure of tightening the rockers with the lifters at the bottom of the lobe? That may not make sense, let me know if you follow me.

wow you must have been tightening the crap out of them to break a bolt lol. I had play in mine when the valve was closed but definitely not when the valve was open, how is that even possible? If it's pushing the valve open how could there be slack in the rocker?

I must have said it wrong. When the valve is closed there is play, when its open they are tight. The guy next door who is a volvo mech came over and listened and said I have an exhaust leak but there is no valvetrain noise. I didnt think it was that tight but when your using a 1/2 torque wrench you dont really notice.LOL lesson learned. Also if you ever working on the rear of the car make sure you block your front wheels I had my car chase me down the drive way a little today. Ive gotten lucky twice in one day. Im going to go pick up my wheels for my slicks and buy a lotto ticket.

I know my rockers had some play when the valve was closed, this is because there's no oil pressure in the lifters when the engine isn't running. That's also why you check valvetrain geometry with solid lifters and not hydraulic ones.

With a pedestal rocker, it doesn't matter if the valve is open or closed. The rocker is going to move because there is no oil pressure to inflate the lifters.

Only the drivers side move? Not side to side but can you push the rocker to where you can create a gap between the rocker and the valve? If you have a problem that is consistant front to back, either you have a block that is cut to short on one side OR a head that is cut too short (deck the heads too much) or -which I highly doubt but your valve height that is too short. :dontknow:

No the noise is only on one side. the otherside is quiet so I never even took the cover off. Ill post upload a vid to see if you can here it. Im going to put some copper on the header gasket fix the exhaust leak before anything else.

Only on one side..hmm??

It could be anything. I would start by checking the lash in all 8 valves on that side, make sure there is good oil circulation.

Have you checked the fulcrums (the little mount the rocker sits on) on those rockers? I remember when I put my old pro ported GT40's (not the ones you had) on my fox I torqued the rockers to 25lb and shattered 2 fulcrums. Come to find out from Crane that those pedestal rockers should only be torqued to around 18lb. I was fortunate enough Crane sent me a new set for free.
