My solution

Looks like a retracted power antenna and if I ever want the OEM one back on it takes all of 5 seconds to switch

I took the antenna completely out of the fender. now i have an antenna on the inside mounted on the top of the window on the passenger side with the wires running inside the pillar. Completely hidden except for a tiny black box at the top of the window inside.

They sell little strip antennas that could attach somewhere. ttocs would really be able to help you out here.

you can sort of see it in my picture. Its barely noticeable. its on the window snugged up against the headliner. The box is a a little thicker than my middle finger and about the same length.

Still get great radio reception btw

Is it the wire waiting to get cut off when the door shuts?

Do a search for a strip-mount under-dash antenna. Work great, don't need to be seen.

NO NO! That wire is for the wideband. Will be taken out soon. The antenna wiring on the other side and is completely hidden! There only thing that can be seen is that little box. Sorry i didn't make that clear.

I did what Orange did, I used to install car audio for a living, Best Buy sells an antenna for $6.99, it has 6 feet of wire on it, I mounted mine in the passenger side pillar, it fit perfectly and rna the wire down and over to the stereo. I have done this a lot when I worked there on peoples classic cars, or custom cars without an exteranlly mounted antenna. I have never had any reception issues by doing this, and it is completely hidden. I shaved mine as well. Hope this helps.

I started off installing at best buy back in '94 and I am fairly sure that even they the cheapest ant then sold was $15-20. Do you know which one is only $6 or was that cost on the part?
