I put new headlights in my 94 GT along with some new bulbs that are supposed to be slightly brighter than stock, from luminics inc. I aligned the headlights properly, and I saw a big improvement over the wore out stock headlight housings. But, there is something still... wrong. They are better, but they're still not what I'd call "good". They seem just a little bit dim. And this is with all new equipment. So I was thinking of pulling the relay trick. Just wiring up some relays form my headlights so that they for sure get full power. Anyone ever done this for NON- HID purposes? If so, how did it turn out? Were your lights brighter?

its not going to gain you more power as much as save the power from going through the switch which is known to get hot. If you run thicker wires you will have the ability to pull more power if needed but it doesn't just automatically feed in more power.

It does if your wiring is old and your connections have seen better days. As is the case from many vehicles from 1994. In that case the bulbs would get more power from the new stuff than the old. I do know this: My old 94 had way brighter lights than this one does.

More than likely you are not going to see a differance as TTOCS said. It does make a differance on some vehicles, my samurai, yes. My '69 CJ5, HELL YES. Mustang.... probably not, I have done several for the reasons stated above, never noticed a light output differance on a mustang, even with 100watt bulbs.

More than likely your problem is the headlight housings themselves. What kind of housing did you get?

I just bought the stock cobra replacements for a 98 model. Drastically increased the visibility at night over the wore out ones I had before. But, even after I finally got them lined up properly, they still seem a little dim. I do plan on doing HID's someday anyway (with the lens mod and all) which IIRC, does need relays also. So maybe it would be worth it, even if the only result was just being prepared for the HID's.

I did this on my old Jeep Cherokee, and it made a hugh difference. Relay harnesses are cheap, so it dose not really hurt to try and see.

www.suvlights.com and get the 9007 harness. Yes you pay a little more but the kits are high-quality. I used one of these on my '97 GT and the difference was stunning even with new bulbs and headlights that it already had.
