+1 nice lookin car thoughARdoller said:Sweet, he probably paid $26,000+dealer markup for that car when it was new 14 years ago, drove it 2000 miles during that period, and is now gonna maybe get half the MSRP price for it. Sounds like a complete waste of money to me. Should be a nice pick-up though if you can get it for under 15.

The amount of markup is kinda a moot point. Dealers shouldn't be making a lot of money on new cars anyway. Selling a brand new Cobra for $31k that MSRP's for 26, is a hell of a markup. Maybe not to what we're used to with the GT500, but if a dealer makes any more than $1000 on a brand new car after dealer expenses, they're making far more than they should be.DropTopPony said:ARdoller said:Sweet, he probably paid $26,000+dealer markup for that car when it was new 14 years ago, drove it 2000 miles during that period, and is now gonna maybe get half the MSRP price for it. I don't remember them being enough in demand that there were markups like on the current GT500's. The one I looked at in 96 the dealer was trying to get full sticker which was @ 31k IIRC and actually sold before I made up my mind to buy another Mustang.

Selling new cars isn't what keeps the dealerships afloat, its reselling used cars. New cars bring people to the lots, and help with some sales, but the big money is in used cars.DropTopPony said:ARdoller said:The amount of markup is kinda a moot point. Why do you think a dealer should not make more then $1000 on a new car?
You do know that when you go to your local Ford Dealership its not actually owned by Ford but an Independent Company who pays Ford a fee to sell its product and use its names/logos etc.
That ownership group should be able to make as much profit as they can since they are shelling out the money to keep the franchise running.
Supply and Demand, capitalism at its best.
