we dont have drag strips down here, so street racing is very common... we mostly do it around midnight in some lonely avenue and like 2v_takeover just hang out with my friends and have some good car conversation

I think most of us have grown out of it.. I once got put on probation for street racing LOL and to top it off i was racing my honda vs a modded new edge.. It moved for being a mustang only cars my honda had problems with back in those days where modded LS1's. But like everyone said its not even worth it.. plus in california dont they crush your car??

Well, where I'm from all the kids around here usually have their parents buy expensive cars for them, then just run them to the ground. I honestly prefer a good cruise night, and good car conversation. Once again though, kids around here don't know there sh*t. Stickers = horsepower haha
Same here- I used to street race after high school until I realized how dumb we looked, but in college after getting stressed out with school, i would take a night cruise and enjoy some music, it really helps calm the nerves. I also had some blue undercarriage lights (love em or hate em) that obviously didn;t make me fast, but really adds to a cruise night. Then cruises just became more fun than racing high school kids with rich parents, neither of which knew what was under the hood.

I gave up street racing after watching my best friend t-bone a semi at well over 100mph and was killed instantly. I dont and wont do it, and dont condone it in any way and the more I look back in the good ole days the more I realize how fn stupid I was but damn lucky to be alive!! But I guess back then there wasnt as many cars on the roads and the cops were cool.....and there wasnt really any rice!!!

yup yup. I work with kid whose parents bought him a a 96 Firebird Formula (he called it a Trans Am and told me it had an LS1). after his dumb ass clearly demonstrated he couldnt handle 350hp in his first car, he got a Monte Carlo SS (which he preceded to rice the fuck out of). Then an Eclipse GSX the other day.
Trying to be nice, i struck up a conversation about the GSX, at which point he told me he it has 1000hp on a stock turbo. im like ok dude let me know when youre ready to run em

Jeese. If you're gonna rice out a car, at least rice out an import tuner. I'll try and help out a kid if he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about, because let's face it, most of us were out there trying to act like we knew all about our car. I thought my car was fast when I was street racing cause I always won, but then I realized I was just racing slow @$$ cars. Thank god we have forums now to help clueless kids find the facts.

^ yeah, but its not hard to point out the people who know more about cars than you, and its even easier to point out those who know less. If you try and act like you know all this shit, youre just going to show that you know nothing and make an ass out of yourself. i learned most of what i know about cars by talking to people who know more about cars than me, asking questions, and showing some damn respect. No car guy is going to turn down an opportunity to share some knowledge with someone who doesnt have quite their experience, provided they show some damn respect. This is true whether youre 16 or 65.
Example. I have had hours long conversations with 60 year old guys talking about turbos vs superchargers, carbs vs efi, basically how the car game has changed since they were wrenching on their Camaros in the 70s

^^ Yeah. Man, now I'm starting to remember all the stupid $#!t I use to say when i was a kid. I used to tell some car buddies that "well, it's an automatic, but i drive it like a standard." -- i used to gun the pedal to get it to shift sooner, but really. . . wth was i talking about!?!? But now that im older and have had some help, i know to get my facts straight first before i open my mouth. But im still willing to help kids that say stuff that i might have said when i was younger, just to save them the embarassing remarks. That, and it's not the late 1960's, so not everyone has car smarts. The only way to keep any muscle cars alive is to respectfully teach the newbies to the hobbie.
and yeah, i totally agree ^^ respect is key.

There's a time and place for everything... Me and very select group of friends play on very isolated highways in the early am hours. Mostly rolls on high end pulls for fun, no money just friendly lets see what it can do stuff. Street racing is dangerous IMO as it relates to how & who.

That vid reminds me of Packer Ave in Philly back in the day. Hundreds of cars on one stretch of road with one way in and one way out. Young kids, no skills and fast cars never ever add up. They would crash into each other, parked cars, fire hydrants the works. Doin stupid shit like donuts in a FWD car while going in reverse. Eventually the cops got tired and started showing up with semi trucks to block the only two exits. Add in some helicopters, paddy wagons and 100 or so cops and it wasnt sexy. Never busted as I always parked a block over and walked over. I only played on 95...

My style aint right and I know it, but we spend a good amount of effort on going to mostly abandoned stretches of highway at silly hours and have our fun. That video reminds me of the chaos that got us to rethink what we did and how we did it. To many cops, accidents, deaths and skill-less 12 yr olds with daddy's car or their first hot rodded whatever.
