you CAN run the T45 with the auto computer.

WE did a 5 speed swap on a buddies car.. 2000 GT, from the 4R70W to a Tremec3650.
we did NOT swap computers either.

Swapped in the pedals, switched over the transmission harness, put the 5 speed and related components in.
Crossed our fingers and fired it up....and it ran and still runs!!! Can ran fine, beaten to hell and back. Now it has a built motor in it.....

So dont be discouraged to do the swap.

what do you mean what do I have? What do I have a line on? Well the pedals, cables, B&M, flywheel, and ECM are coming from a buddy in Detroit who just wants a case of good ol' Canadian beer for 'em. The trans w/ 80K, new king cobra clutch, and steeda tri-ax was coming from a guy in PA who's been nearly 2 weeks getting back to me about a shipping quote to Michigan (another reason why I'm thinking of kiaboshing the whole idea). He wanted $250 USD + shipping which I figured to be around $100 from what others have told me they had their transmissions shipped for. I also have a mechanic friend who was going to do the install for me for $300-$350 CAD. So I COULD have it all said and done for:
$250 - trans, clutch, shifter ($270 CDN)
$100 - shipping ($105 CDN)
$25 (case of beer from Duty Free) - pedals, flywheel, ecm, cable, another shifter, any odds and ends I might need
$350 - Labour to install
$100 - Reprogramming new ECM to work with my PATS system

= $850 CAD

So do you have the trans??? just wondering.

Dude, if you'd read all of the conflicting information and received all of the contradictory answers to your questions, you'd be discouraged from the swap too. Maybe there's a difference between the pre-99's and the post 99's or something. I've read lots where people said they couldn't run the "auto" ecm with the new T45. The car that you did it in - was it tuned with a hand held? I'm sure you would have mentioned that if you had tuned the ECM to work correctly - but just in case you overlooked that. If you actually did the swap, I'd like to talk to ya. Would you mind giving me your email address? Mine's [email protected] if you don't wanna post yours in "public".

Void - No, I don't have it yet. I was just lining up all the parts while I was asking the questions about the swap. Right now, I'm glad I didn't spend all the $$ on the parts since I'm leaning towards not even using 'em. haha

I'm starting to think that for the amount of money spent on doing the swap, I could do a LOT more with the existing trans/rear end. Even with a really good deal on parts AND labour - I'm still lookin at about a grand; plus a lot of down time. For basically 1/3rd of that cost, I can get my auto J-Modded and throw some gears in the rear end. (Motive gears on Ebay = $220 ... J-Mod = $10 in parts)
So it's basically a big toss up right now. I would really like to have a 5spd in there, but is it worth all that money just to be more "fun" to drive? Tough decision.

Like you said, IF we did tune the car with a handheld or chip for the 5 speed swap, I would have mentioned it.
However, nothing was done to the computer. No tuning whatsoever.
BUT it does have a chip in there now, an SCT Flip-Chip, to compensate for the built motor thats in there now (Timing, fuel, gears). However I dont know the full details of what else was changed with the SCT chip.

We did the swap last year ( March 2006), from auto to 5 speed....my buddy drove it around all last year with the auto ecm and put it away for winter.
The built motor was installed early this year (over the winter) and was driven around AGAIN with the stock Auto ecm and the 5 speed manual in place.
The SCT was added just last month (Early August 2007)!!!

Well if you don't go with the five speed. Do the shift kit or the J mod if you comfortable doing that and the gears.... one piece of advice though. Get a good torque converter and you will be out running the shit out of 5 speeds with the set up and you won't miss shifts....only thing is that if you up the torque converter you need a trans cooler better than stock. Thats not that much $$$... plus i came from coral and there was a guy there that built converters and everyone swore by him and said he was better than PA and other torque converters plus he only cost 400 i believe where the others were like 800. So i do think that i'm going to stick with the auto when i slide my 4v in there..... o one more thing.... you might out run five speeds and stuff pretty easy but your car won't make the rwhp that the 5speed ones make. But it don't matter if your walking them right?

But you can do what ever floats your boat... this is just my .02 Good luck and let me know how it goes. O0

I've done the swap and you don't need a stick computer. The OD light will flash, and it will throw trans fault codes, but it will run fine. Barry Shepard at the Mobil1 WFC1 in KY told me the auto ecu has a stronger program since it doesn't pull timing out like the stick ECU. ;)

Now, If you have to pass MARTA OBD2 crap, the trans codes will fail you. You will then need to buy a SCT Xcal2 to get rid of the trans codes and turn off the flashing OD light. I ended up having to do this to pass, and I added in bumped timing for 93 pump, tune for the PI swap + mods, and shut down the rear O2's so I can run the o/r prochamber without the annoying check engine light. :)
