So, here I was cruising today enjoying a great sunny day on my 94 GT and reach a stoplight. When in goes green, I accelerate and VROOM, no forward motion, I close the throttle and then BOOM, drive engages. I continue with part throttle and everything goes fine then I give it a little more and again the trans. lets go drive again and no go, I ease the gas and then, boom, drive again. This only happens on Drive, because if I start in 1 or 2 it doesn't do it. I already changed the trans filter because it was the first thing to look for trouble, but I don't have any idea what the heck is going wrong with the stupid trans. only that it happens when the temp goes up.
Please, HEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are the internals to a Performance Automatic Competition AODE

http://www.missiontrans.com/store/product.php?productid=121&js=n

If you do this rebuild and plan on doing ANY POWER ADDER you need to include either an aftermarket hardened stub shaft, or a stub shaft from a 1998 or newer 4R70W stub shaft. The stock one is very weak and will twist. You will also need to invest in a decent torque converter if you want any type of power over 300 RWHP.

I can get you a great price on a PA Stub Shaft which is designed specifically for high performance. If you don't think you need it, you can spend a lot less on a hardened stub shaft from Ford. The hardened stub shaft ONLY came on 1998 and newer 4R70W trannies. The hardened piece from Ford is $25.00

There are tons of upgrades you can do that are not necessary but are good for safety. Here are the common ones..

Improved Main Pressure Regulator Valve for 1992-1995 AODE and 4R70W $19.99

Improved Bypass Clutch Control Valve Sleeve and Plunger for All AODE and 4R70W Transmissions $29.99

Mechanical Diode Intermediate One-Way Clutch kit (Reverse Drum, One-Way, and Retainer) $150.00

1992-1995 AODE/4R70W Valve Body Shift Kit $99.95

1998 Direct Stub Shaft for AODE/4R70W $25.00

Stacked Plate Transmission Cooler 7¼"x11"x ¾" 18,000 GVW $64.95

Every upgrade you'd want can be found in a 4r70w, inlcuding the mechanical diode (one way that failed in yours).

If it's just a stock car, grab another from the boneyard and slap it in there man. No sense in spendint 1800 bucks on a rebuild when you aren't going ot keep the car forever, unless you are.

Yeah, you're right. So the trany from the 4.6L cars also fit mine, like Crown Vics or F series trucks?

No, the hardparts inside can be utilized, for alot cheaper than PA is asking. The unit itself will not bolt up, V6 units will, but the have different valvebody arraignments. Long story short, another 94-94 AODE is what you are looking for, unless you want to upgrade.

You can order it from Ford - just call the parts dept and tell them you need a stub shaft for a 1998 or newer 4R70W. Anything 97 and older is NOT hardened.

You can also order the part directly from Karl Baumann.

Oh Sh*t. Guess I'm screwed. The tranny only was used on 94-95 5.0's only. That sucks BIG TIME. What other upgrade are you saying, another type of trans?

If you got it rebuilt by anyone competent, it'll last longer than your motor, guaranteed.

I know. I mean power wise. I would pretty much need to get it rebuilt again to have it hold under any real power. It's just easier to go stick, plus I want a stick.

A stock AODE internally with decent valvebody mods will hold 400 rwhp easily, but if you want a manual, then do that. But know that T5's don't hold the stock 225 hp, let alone anymore without some money into them either.
