My AODE is on its way out, its slipping pretty bad and wont shift out of second gear. I beleive its completly stock besides a shift kit on it. Im looking to replace the tranny either getting it rebuilt better than stock due to having a power adder or just buy a completly new built transmission. From what Im seeing the new tranny will cost me around 2k, anyone know how much it costs to have one gone through? Ill have to talk to my tranny guy but i wanted to see your guys opinions. I also plan on going with a precision industries stall convertor. I do not want to convert to a 5-speed, I enjoy the auto.

Not too bad. As long as you have a tranny guy that knows what he is doing, it will be cheaper to rebuild.

I have had an AOD and AODE rebuilt in 2 seperate cars. Anything you need/want to know...ask away. I have no idea where you stand money wise so I am not gonna start throwing shiat out there.

Tell me what you want and how much power your making or going to make, and we'll start from there.

Right now Im made 300 horse to the wheels, prolly wont ever exceed 450hp, so something thats good to 450ish is what im looking for. Money wise, i dont know i could spend the money if i really need to but like i said 450 horse max ill prolly ever make so it doesnt need to be insane the best of the best but i do want it to be decent quality. What are the popular changes to these transmisions to make more power?

Well..you already have the shift kit which is a key part.

This is the rebuild kit that was recommended to me by Performance Automatic:

AODE High Performance Super Master Rebuild Kit

- Kolene Steels
- All gaskets for the complete rebuild (including the fiber pan gasket)
- All rubber (lip seals, o-rings) and metal clad seals
- Sealing Rings
- Alto Eagle Redline Clutches w/ powerpack
- Kolene Steel Plates
- High Performance Front Band
- Complete Bushing Kit
- Thrust Washer Kit
- Transmission Filter

Cheapest place I found it was $279.99

Get a self regulating low pressure drop transmission cooler...this one is excellent.

If you have the money, I would also invest in a deeper transmission pan...helps with cooling.

I would also get this from Karl Baumann @ www.becontrols.comhttp://

- 1998 Direct Stub Shaft for AODE/4R70W Part#: STUB $25.00
- Mechanical Diode Intermediate One-Way Clutch kit (Reverse Drum, One-Way, and Retainer) Part#: MD-1 $150.00
- Improved Main Pressure Regulator Valve for 1992-1995 AODE and 4R70W Part#: PR-1 $19.99

I need to have the aode rebuilt in mine. I've rebuilt powershift trannies in heavy equipment. How much harder would this be? My best price on a rebuild and new torque conv. is 900. Listed above is 300 for a hi qual rebuild kit. Care to point me in the right direction? My pony is factory and currently being brought back to life from the negligence of the previous owner. My money needs to stretch as far as possible without sacrificing quality. Once i tow it home it need the tranny, tires, windshield, ragtop, paint, and god knows what else. Since stumbling upon this site a few days ago i've been consumed by the wealth of information available here. Looking for a nudge in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

the AOD-E is a good transmission will handle up to 600 at wheel with some mods
#1 use 4R70w planetary gear set [out of a 98 or newer f-150; ford rates this gear set at 500 ft pd] gives lower first and second gear use all needed parts to do upgrade[ most of 4R70W internals ] this will give U a take off like a much lower gear
ex. 3.27 will take off like a 4.20
A good tuner can reprogram comp to accommodate the differant shift points I ran my 94 408W like this for years

Last summer I replaced my slipping AODE with the Performance Automatic AODE rated for 550 horse and torque and i could not be any happier. put in a hughes 2500 stall converter as well. with 3.73s it throws you into your seat, esp out of 1st and 2nd gear. make sure u get plenty of trans fluid if your replacing it. about 14 quarts worth. I went with royal purp. cheapest i found the trans for was around 1800 with tax. summit matched the price and i received it 3 days later
