My car is currently sitting taking up valuable space in my garage and it's pissing all over the place. I have a TCI tranny pan, which has a very thick flange (~3/8"), with a cork gasket. Fluid is seeping out from a small area towards the front of the car. Can I torque the bolts past the 12 lb spec? I know that I CAN do this, but I am concerned with how this will affect the gasket.

not sure. I bought a 4r70w (is that right?) gasket/filter kit from Autozone and that's what it came with. I may need to verify my terminology here...well tomorrow any way when I'm not so lazy.

hmmmm im not a aod expert by no means, but if you have a leak there its got to be someting with the gasket ??? so I wonder if you have the right one, and if you do you must not have it on there exactly right to prevent a leak. As far as over tighting the bolts :dunno: im not going to say do or dont, Ill just say there is specks from the factory for a reason.

Gasket is the correct one, I visually checked. This is the second one in the past couple months. I tightened the bolts in a criss cross pattern in stages. I don't want to get to the point of no return and be sorry.

That's a loaded question. It all started because of a leak in one of the front pump gaskets. Literally 3 tranny pulls and 6 fluid changes (all since 1/07) later here I am. I'm on the second tranny pan gasket of this type. The first one leaked because I tightened the bolts in a star pattern and not the criss cross pattern. It's been...fun to say the least.

I used the cork gasket, no leaks, is there any chance the pan is distorted?

It's possible, but I wouldn't bet on it. The pan is only 6 mos old with a flange minimally 3/8" (5 mm) thick. I have checked it with a metal straight edge but not on a truly flat surface.

go to ford and buy a factory pan gasket.

they are like the 94-95 valve cover gaskets, steel with rubber and are reuseable

Cork sucks. Id bet you split the gasket at a bolt hole when you tightened it up. Its REALLY easy to do. Ditch it and get a rubber one. FelPro makes one.
