Hey dudes my mustang is on its last leg and a swap is coming soon.. I can get a crown vic motor from a 03 for about $600 shipped.. Is it the same as the mustang Pi motor? Ive read the intake is less restrictive and that they only have 250 whp. I have also read that they are the same.. which is it lol The motor has 71k miles and good compression between 150-175 what do you guys think??

Same as far as my knowledge. They have the PI motors in them. Snag it and throw a Bullitt intake on it you'll be set. I have heard people porting the NON pi heads and using PI cams or the opposite. I am not so much into mod motors as i used to be so i can only throw out things i have heard.

See ive heard that there intak manifolds flow less then the mustangs... Andd i think what ppl do is put the non pi heads on the pi block to bump the compression.. I think id rathe rkeep the P.i together and drop it iin that way if it is the same as the mustang motor..

People put pi heads o n am npi block.for compression bump. The vics got a pi setup in 01 02 some time around there.... They aren't junk but to me that seems high price for a stock motor swap. Also win you can't swap the bullitt manifold on.... Need other stuff..

I might just be in the same boat as the OP, so instead of starting a new thread i thought i'de jump into this one. I had the same question about the PI, motor on a crown vic, i recently found a used 4.6 off a 98 and the lunatic at the junk yard wanted $750 for a 13 year old engine :O so naturaly im a bit put off by the idea, i really want a PI motor but idk how much work and extra parts i need for the swap, is it a drop in and plug in kinda thing or will i need electronics, harnesses, etc? and will it bolt on directly to my t-45?

Well the Pi didnt start in the crown vics till 01.. And it is pretty much drop and plug you use your hanress extent some wires and drill in a hole to the intake manfiold for an extra sensor..

I also have the option to get a V4 and use my non pi heads on it?? I would do the whole v4 swap but the intake manifold and all the extra crap adds up and makes me not want to go that rout..

Anyone know what the compression would be with 2v non pi heads on a 4v block?? Im really considering doing this :D with maybe pi cams and intake manfiold.. Ive heard it has really high compression

$600????? id just wait around for one around you. go to the junk yard, theres got to be a totalled cop car, taxi cab, or crown vic in there...

ive seen retired cop cars go for less than $600.00 at the auctions. might as well buy a whole running car for that price.

I wouldn't mind goin the whole nine with a tekside block and a PI upper or a 4V upper but at this point I'm in the plain jane PI market, the cheaper the better. I thought my issue might have been resolved after we found a leaky hose but no such luck, I still have a white puff of smoke when the cars hot and I idle at a stop and tap the gas.
What's a fair deal for a PI engine? I'm not saying bottom dollar deal of the century cause I know I won't get that but I'm sayin a fair reasonable price? In other words what should I not pay more than, for a PI engine?

It really matters on your location... Check out craigslist too see if you can find anything or car-parts.com for local junkyards.. I would say $600 is fair but thats in idaho
