I have a 94 3.8 with auto transmission it does not shift into overdrive until you hit 45 mph. Now once it is in o/d you can slow down to say 40 or less and it stays in O/D is this how all the other 94 or 95 owners with auto transmissions work out there?

Both my '98 V6 Mustang and my '94 F-150 shift into Overdrive at roughly 40mph... Will also stay in O/D while slowing down until about 35, then shift back into 3rd...

Most of the Ford vehicles I've driven were about the same way. I actually found it a little odd when I read that yours shifts into O/D at 45 instead...

(Also, just because I find it interesting, most of the GM vehicles I've owned over the years with a 700R4 tranny shifted into O/D at 35mph... I thought there was somthing wrong with my Mustang when it would wait 'till 40...)

my spec sheet shows that ht minimum O/D upshift speed for the 1998 3.8l V6 with the 4R70W automatic is 41mph.

now the 1994 AODE transmission in Wayne's mustang has a different Overdrive ratio than our 4R70W's, which changes the shift point accordingly

A Moates chip or a TwEECer would both let you move the OD shift point depending on several variables, along with all the other shift points...

I personally had moved it way up at WOT so I couldnt slam into OD while floored in my 95 GT... Theres no point in doing it... Just asking for carnage lol

i know a handheld tuner can adjust wide open throttle shift points, but im not sure about partial throttle shifts

they can only be adjusted with the sct pro racer program or if you use a sniper tuner setup and can tune it yourself.

You can adjust it for every situation possible.

The stock shift pattern tends to be fine as far as part throttle anyway so generally I wouldnt touch that.

You could do what I do and just push the little O/D button on the side of the shifter when you get back down around 40 or so. I do it out of sheer habit at this point and don't even notice I've done it until a passenger points it out.

Do it in my truck, too.

OD isn't really usefull till 45 or so anyway. I turn the OD off for in-town driving on all the auto's I've had. The more the trans spends time shifting in and out of OD, the hotter the trans fluid gets anyway.
