well ive researched and researched and tried many things to figure out what is wrong with my idle and air/fuel ratio. when the engine is cold, my car(1995 gt) runs fine, and the problem arises when it starts to the engine warms up a bit and then all hell breaks loose. its only when im at idle for about 2 minutes or more, then the idle drops from a smooth 1k to around 750 and is really choppy. and it continues to get worse. then while im getting through all the gears, i have NO power whatsoever and the engine lags very bad. so my first thought was the MAF of course, well that was a no go. cleaned it all and everything and still the power is gone when i idle for a couple of minutes after the car has warmed up. so this is where all you very knowledgeable people with all your great experience come in to play  :notworthy: :eek:ccasion14:

i need to know everything that you guys know that could possible be wrong with it. i would appreciate your help so much, ive been fighting this problem for about six months now, i know one of you has to know, or may have a great suggestion. :laughing5:

i saw something about problems coming from the size of the maf vs. the size of the injectors for instance. i really have no clue what size injectors i have so ill look into it as soon as i can, but i can tell you that the MAF is stock with a k+n air filter with the stock intake and i have gt40 heads. so i hope that helps a bit. but ive read thats only one of the many problems that could cause the power loss/horrible idle/gas mileage and so on.

so i hope you guys have taken the time to read this all, i kno it is alot. but i came to you guys for a reason, cuz your experience is bar non, and cuz you are always very helpful to everyone and i cant thank you enough.

thanks for all the help in advance,

If your injectors are orange then they are stock. Did you try cleaning the air intake temp sensor further up the intake? It is possible that it is clogged and starts to heat up at the light because of crud stuck on it. Also you might want to check your coolant temp sensor and thermostat.

injectors are color coded. what color do you have.
since the idle is good when. i would look into the egr system first. the emissions system is in bypass for the first couple minutes after starting.

the injectors are orange so they must be stock. im glad i got that cleared up. and i already cleaned the temp sensor, did it when i cleaned the MAF. on a side note, could it be possible that its running like that because im running the stock injectors with gt40 heads? i dont kno too much about it so im just wondering?

orange injectors. yup the idle is good when it first starts but after i sit for a couple minutes say at a stop light, thats when it goes bad. but i could run a hundred miles and it will be perfectly fine with no problems at all.

and if correct the egr is the pipe running from the throttle body to the stock headers right? but i have some sort of after market headers and the egr has been deleted, but the pipe looks cut and closed off but the delete looks half assed so i dont kno if that could be the problem. but i highly doubt it is.

thanks desertfox and spdolit for the help so far, and any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated:)

before you continue easting money, you need to perform a few tests... first, whats your fuel pressure set at. second, are you still running a completely stock exhaust?

do you have a CEL?

as far as i kno im running a stock fuel pressure, but do you have any suggestions on the best/cheapest way to check?

and right now im running a shitty almost home made looking set up. its the crappiest exhaust ive seen in my life but i just bought the car a couple months ago so im getting ready to ditch it for the pypes beast full system with the vialator tips. hopefully that will get things running smoothly.

thanks for everything so far. i knew yall could help. and like always, any further input will be appreciated.

is it misfiring or surging? The best way to check it is with a 5 gas analyzer...After that there is waveform tests with a graphing multimeter that you would perform on all of the sensors...Does the Check Engine light flash, or stay solid?
Try disconnecting the vacuum tube to the egr when it is idling bad, there should be no vacuum going to the EGR at idle.

If that doesn't make it go away You may have a misfire, or bad timing. Check to make sure your SPOUT connector is in...

If your spout is good, then try pulling one spark plug wire at a time. If there is no change in the way it is running on one of them , then there is your bad cylinder....

I think a little more info is required to properly diagnose the problem...Try these things, and let us know!

Good Luck,

Justin
