well as some may remember i was having a big issue with the overall sound of my exhuast so i bought 3in Borla XR1's from Chris and after 3 weeks on the road iv finally gotten home, ran to Summit today in my buddys cobra, and got my 3in intermediate pipes as well as Eibach Sportline's (i wanted to drop it low but not slam it)

long story short, we got the springs installed then cutout the old exhuast and installed the intermediate pipes with the Borlas attatched to them. everything looks fantastic. i hadnt planned on running tailpipes because the only 3in tailpipes are Fox pipes and im not entirely certiain everything will line up just right. i know the tailpipe hangar would need to be removed and rewelded but other than that im not sure of fitment issues. so i have the muffler and done. it sounds incredible outside of the car. but inside the car the drone is so loud its almost unbearable. under throttle it rattles your head bad lol but you can hear how muscular it sounds now.

i overall LOVE the sound over my old Flowmasters (and upon uninstallation of the Flow's shit was falling out of them and the welds had holes in them so i think it was time to replace anyways), but the drone is insanely annoying lol. any suggestions? i can possibly get some pix tomorrow, it was about 3am when we finally finished everything since we started at 10 haha so we were too tired to even think about pix.

im lowered on sportlines now, so i have the mufflers slightly angled upwards kinda into the gas tank which is most likely the cause for the drone. im thinking dynomatting the car would drastically reduce the drone but what other ideas do you guys have for me?

tailpipes will make a big difference on how much drone you have in the car. I was going to say adding cats would also help but I see you already have them.

Tail pipes man. My old Talon's side exit exhaust had less drone than any car with under car dumps ive ever ridden in.

yeah im thinking along the lines of maybe running a side exit myself. ill hav to cut off about 3-4in off the intermediate pipe but i have room to cut, then ill throw a 90 on them and an oval tip and that will be it.

i kinda figured that it was due to the fact that i didnt have any tailpipes on it lol. i have to say tho, this is the loudest and best sounding street legal exhuast i have heard on a mustang in a long time. i truly love the way it sounds!

and chris heres a pic of how it looks from back. theyre angled upwards a little bit to prevent bottom outs

man. ... those look killer.. .. ....
get some dumps, if nothing else. I have a feeling just purging that exhaust out like that may be causing the problems. $30.00 dumps off summit and see if it helps. If nothing else you can re-sell them from $20.00 and you're only out $10.00 for a quick-fix-attempt.

whenever i get it back in the air ill take some underside pix for ya. i frickin love these things tho i just went on a 250mi trip today to drop my sis off at college (and its my birthday so happy birthday to me!) and theyre starting to break in and hav almost a slight choppiness to them that you can feel in your chest. they sound sooo good WOT.. im thinkin of takin the cats back off and seeing what sound i get.

but yeah im actually going to summit tomorrow to get something for my birthday (im thinkin 4.10s!) so while im there ill see if they have any in stock. im thinking before all is said and done im gonna shorten the intermediate pipe (remember the extra 3in lol?) and throw a 45 on them and make a side exit. but do you think the dumps will fix the strange idle issues that have suddenly shown up after installing the mufflers? it drops to a tad over 500 and almost stalls then jumps back up to 1100..

its still so frickin loud in the car you cant hold a convo on the interstate with the windows open lol

idle problem? did you delete the o2s? did you delete the EGR? did you remove the cats? what did you change during install?

No, i dont think dumps will fix the idle (and i dont think the mufflers are causing the issues, either. lol)

a 45 side exit would be pretty killer.

thats the thing i didnt change a single thing on the tune lol. i simply retuned it when i put the borlas on. but yeahhhh i kinda had a feeling the mufflers wouldnt cause idle issues but hey i can hope cant i? ;) the idle issue started when i put them on tho which i found stranger than hell.

EGR is still on, rear O2's are still on, cats are still on, idle rpm is at 710 i believe (i bumped it up from 640 when i started having the bad drop in rpms). i mean i left everything the same. i even tried tuning it again.

parts wise i put the sportlines in, cut the old exhaust with the flows off.. which the PO or the PO before that rather because the PO i got it from didnt know squat about the car.. he gave me the sct tuner cuz he couldnt get it to work haha.. but the PO PO had a muffler shop weld the flowmasters to the stock 2 1/4 piping and the flows were 2 1/2 ID.. like really lol. but i removed the old exhaust and me and my dude bolted on the Borlas and dropped it on the ground. nothing else was changed. so im not sure whats up with it

but yeah dude if i get it done ill post up some pix and show you. im lovin my exhaust right now tho!!

FYI-
XR1 come two ways. XR1 Multicore & XR1 Sportsman. Two totally different designs and sound. Prochambers delete drone quite well but an expensive solution.

theyre the sportsmans im about 99% sure on that. i love the sound of them and im not changing them lol. im thinking im gonna just leave it till i can afford to make my own side exits. and actually the more they break in the less drone they seem to have. that or im getting used to it but either way its not as bad as it was
