Belt snapped, need help.

Well my belt pretty much took a dump on me. I had to get it towed home last night, it was still holding on by a few threads, but I didn't want to take the chance and drive it home.

I plan on putting one on in the morning, are there any tips to installing the serp belt? What exact tools are needed? Thanks in advance!

do u have a blower or what??? if so it can get preatty complicated to change on some specially u u have like a procharger, paxton, or something like that .. always change belts every month! to be on the safe side

you need a cheater bar. i got mine from checker for $9.99. it has a 1/2 drive on the end. Put this into your belt tentioner and pull on it. it will take some force. after this, slide your used belt off and discard it.

then rout the belt through the pullies except for the alternator. then re-pull on the cheater bar to dis-engage the tensioner, and slide the belt over the alternator. This is MUCH easier with a 2nd person to hold the cheater bar.

So all I will need is a 1/2 cheater/breaker bar? Wow, that is SO weird. I just randomly brought one home from my parent's house tonight. lol

lol, yep thats it. just put it in the pulley side of your tensioner, and pull. i believe it goes TOWARD the passenger side, but im not 100%.

also, you may need a 1/2" extender to clear a strut tower.

get a friend to remove the tension from the tensioner with a 1/2 drive.

Slide the back side of the belt over the flat smooth pulley on the middle of the block

I had the old one off and the new one on in 10 min at the most. I had to do it myself and it turned out good, thanks goodness!

There's a plate in front of the tensioner. Take that off... two bolts. Use a 1/2" ratchet and pull on the tensioner to loosen the belt. Remove the belt, put new one on, re-install the protector plate. 10 minutes max. With my Kenne Bell I have to do it from the bottom of the car cause of my intercooler reservoir.

You DON'T have to replace the serpentine belt every month. Just inspect it every so often. My belt with my Kenne Bell and idler pulleys are fine after three years.

I have to pretty much re-learn how to work on the car. I could literally do everything on my old truck, but I have to get used to the car and all that good stuff. I just can't pay someone else for labor, I've done everything myself on everything I own. It might take me a bit longer, but it gets done and done correctly.

I didn't understand what everyone else was talking about, I just stick a ratchet in there, pop the belt on/off. Pretty easy, one man job. I see people talking about laying underneath and unbolting thing's... I just turned the ratchet, lol

There's a black "cover" that semi-covers up the hole for the 1/2 drive breaker bar to fit in. There are 2 1/2" nuts that hold that on.

He was referring to people with blowers...I still dont change mine untill it breaks...but its really not a bad idea to change the belt if you have a blower every 6 months to a year if your car has a habit of breaking them.

Depends on how you drive the car and what belts you use I guess.
