I heard they are great for a few years but after that it will start to fade/flake/peel. Now also if you happen to curb them just a tad then that will make it start to flake that much faster.

This is true. My buddy had an 03 KB cobra and put black chrome FR's on, a few years later they started to peel, and the new owner got the FR's redone all black, so they are definitely not built for longevity.

they would probably be ok on a show car/trailer queen that isn't driven much but on a DD exposed to the eliments/dust/curbs it is just too sensative of a layer to last.

I've heard nothing but good from people who don't own black chrome and from everyone who has I have heard they will never buy them again

I wanted Black Chrome Saleens but nobody had them in stock last Spring and I went with the all black instead... I really like how the black look and thought they would be less maintenance over the long run. If I get a chip I just do some touch up paint. They do have that black chrome duplicolor in the can though.

Yeah we've had a few people on here that have had bad luck with black chrome, that scared me away from them when I got my wheels

sounds like that would be safer for you if you plan on keeping the car for a while.

Is there even anyone on here with black chrome wheels?

This is just from having metal valve stems. And also the finish scratches VERY easily.

I've seen some Saleens advertised as "hyperblack" on a couple of sites as well as "black chrome" & "hypersilver" The examples they have of the hyperblack & black chrome do look different from each other. Are they in reality the same finish as far as durability, etc? I was looking at a new set of hyperblack Saleens someone has on another forum for $500/shipped.
I may just stick with chrome for me. I would hate to have some of these issues down the road. I saw a set of 18x9 & 18x10 for $599 shipped advertised this afternoon. May have been just a Christmas thing though

From what I understand black chrome is just chrome with a coating over it that is not very strong.

Most of us know chrome is just a material bonded to metal through a chemical reaction and electrical charge (you can copper coat things with pennies if you know how to do it)

From what I understand, hypercoating is more like a traditional durable wheel, like the black bullitts you can order, etc. It looks like anthracite but a bit darker in my opinion. One of my favorites on saleens.

hyperblack, hypersilver and hypercoated are not the same as black chrome. Black chrome is almost like a tinted chrome, where as the other three, which i believe to be the same, are almost a liquid mercury silver look.
