Black smoke means?

Here a shitty screen capture of "Nitrous" Pete Misinski's Cobra. It's a little hard to tell from this picture, but you can see the exhaust has a weird color coming out of it. The car wasn't hurt on this pass, it actually ran a 9.99 or something like that. I can try and find a better picture. I remember seeing Pete's car run at WFC in 2004 or 5, and watching it pour out this reddish smoke, it was weird.

Blue = Burning Oil
White = Condensation or a good sign of blown headgasket
Black = Carbon or Running Rich
Red = Your car is one of a kind

Thats as far as I know...

ps: anyone hear about that stuff you can put somewhere in your car to get 'strawberry' smelling exhaust? I think its more for draggers etc so they dont gotta huff the bad smelling exhaust fumes.

A lot of cars that run nitro methane use that stuff. Definitely makes the exhasut not burn your nose thats for sure.

I use the smelly stuff in my nitro RC's, it's like 3 or 5 bucks from Summit. Stuff still clear's your sinuses pretty quick.

I also get black build-up in my tailpipes, but never any black smoke. My tune is on the very conservative side also. a/f is at 12:1.

Funny story...

My buddy was once following behind me on his gixxer, I havent been running the car hard for a long time, we pull up to a red light. I try to show off and rip it off the line, redline 1st, redline 2nd, MISS third...rev the piss out of it then once I get it in third a second later my car made the biggest backfire I have ever witnessed. I seriously thought I blew my trans or motor up, I can swear I felt the car hop, my buddy in the passenger seat said the same thing. I pull over, buddy on the bike pulls up "what the f**k was that, I got shot in the face with black smoke and I could feel that hit me". lol You guys arnt gonna believe me but it was fucking insane, the entire intersection was hazed with black smoke and everyone was staring with scared looks on their faces.

i use the cotton candy stuff at the track haha that stuff is awesome but its potent.... a cap-full of the better scents...a.k.a. stronger ones will leave your tank smelling that way for a few gas ups haha ...grape has got to be one of the stronger ones...and i hate it....as a kid my medicines were always grape flavor uke: it makes me sick to my stomach
