Blew the engine up anyways. Left it running this morning to thaw the ice on it. Forgot about it by lunch, smoke rolling out of the engine and the smell.

My wifes already lookin at the Ford Escape and Jeep Compass. Were in the middle of bankruptcy or at least paying the lawler to get the wheels turning and now this. If only someone would hire me for my degree. I'm stuck at this retarded CPA office that promised me an accounting position in May(currently Accounting assistant), which was given to some girl fresh out of college with no experience. Where I had a degree 6 months sooner, and 1 1/2 years experience. Getting rid of stuff to make the ends meet. Lowering satalite, getting rid of home phone, cat and lowering grocery bill when I get home from work. I just feel like living on a beach with no responsiblility and eating coca nuts. Or blowing something up. But I have a daughter to feed so I guess I'm in for the fight.

I know how to budget, I work at an accounting office and have an Accounting degree. But thanks man.
Would an engine lock up for just sitting at idle for 4 hours in 30 degree weather? The engine is running and knocking hard. What possible issues could it be?

Well, my engines not locked up its detonating hard right now when cranked. I'm gonna check the fluids when I get home and drive (try) it to a shop 1 block away. I hope its not to expensive. I told my wife we are better off replacing the motor if its under 2 grand. Its a 98 Cavalier Z24.

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. It seems like a new car should be the farthest thing from her mind right now.

I would have to wonder what's going thru her mind lol

that's sucks about the car tho. It shouldn't have messed it up just sitting there idling. I mean if it couldn't idle that long what do you think would've happened if you drove on a vacation or something.

If you are thinking of bankruptcy the last thing on your mind should be another bill. Go get her a $500.00 car and let her drive it. I went through what you are going through about 15 years ago. I drove $500.00 cars for about 8-9 years before I would take on a loan to get a newer car.

Don't let your financial problems get you down. I lost everything I had, house, truck, everything. Now we are doing fairly well.

Just got home.

From what I understand letting the car sit in an idle like that could do 3 things.
1. The heads won't get any oil since no pressure is building up so the heads seize.
2. No cool air flow cause it sitting still so it over heats
3. runs out of gas.

Neighbor knocked on my wifes door cause smoke was roling out of the hood. So that knocks no. 3 out. Tried to crank it, ETS light, Theft light engine light on. Started over could would not stay cranked. Decided to keep it floored and cranked it. After 20 cranks it slowly came to life and evently stayed running. Wouldn't keep an idle unless I gave it gas though. Rough idle and every time I cranked it it felt like a hammer hit my car, then it would die.

Anyway I managed to get it to run. Now it wouldn't shift it was stuck in park. I must have beaten on for 3 mins till finally it shifted. then died. Back to step one. Put it in park cranked it and drove it to the shop, died one time in front of an on coming car. Guess I'll see what it is tomorrow.

definitely be careful about pullin out in front of folks, when the car just dies. you are lucky to have your life, be thankful for all you can.

i cant really diagnosae the issue, but that really sucks.

i hope it doesnt kill the pocket.

Results are in, shop replaced Coil pack, and plugs. Cleaned Coolent sensor to make that light go away. Heads are ok.
Coil pack was under warrenty so only paid for labor and plugs.

New issue has shown up. When I drove it to the shop it stuck in park. I jammed and fought it for it to slide in drive. Now keys are getting stuck in the ignition. What gives what could I have damaged?
