I am about to start working on the body of my car and straightening out some dings and such on it. There are few spots on it that looks like it might be hail damage. It was there when I bought the car and now that the motor is getting close to be complete I wanted to start turning my attention to paint. The paint that is on the car is not good. The place I bought it from had resprayed white and the paint is starting to lift off in a couple of places. I started looking into the Dupli Color paint shop system. After doing some research on it I found that the lacquer based paint is not real good to use. Need some suggestions as to what brand of paint I should be looking at.

Also, what is the best method for getting hail damage off a car. I plan on taking my time doing the bodywork so would leaving it in primer for a couple of weeks/months cause any issues with the bodywork? I.E. rust anything like that. Any tips or tricks you want to add for good body work?

Get lot's, and lot's, and lot's, of sandpaper.

Laquer paint is super old school, but it used to be on car's in like the 30's. Anywhere there's any bare metal, use an etching primer, use epoxy everywhere else, and a high build "2k" to do any feathering from bare metal to paint, so it's even.

I use PPG paint's, and these primer's. http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com/product_page.htm

Oh, and Bondo is ok to use on light ding's, just don't try to build a new fender with it or something. It's a serious amount of effort to beat little dings out without bondo.

Thanks for that info JR!

I am gonna be going with hugger orange and black for my car. Where the car is black right now it is going to stay black. I.E. the hood and the spoiler. I am also gonna paint the roof black. The rest of the body is gonna be hugger orange. I got lots of work ahead of me!

If you cover the entire car in Expoxy, you will need to scuff it again before you shoot it, because there's no kind of UV protection in primer. If you use another kind of primer, you need to cover it in primer sealer, because it won't be sealed from soaking up water.

And, BTW, the orange car running around here, (it was in one of the summit catalogs) looks awesome, except it has gay ass stripes, i hate stripes, stripes go on skunks, start putting them on other things, and how do I know it's not a skunk?
