i got some bad news, well more along the lines of news a highly didnt expect. i was just tinkering with my exhuast, making sure nothing is rubbing or catching anywhere and making sure the bolts are snug. and i slip by the diff. and saw the tag just sitting there(never have seen it before in the 8 months ive owned the car! lol) and read it. and prayed i read it wrong but i didnt. low and behold there are some 3.08's hiding in there :sad5: :angry7: i was always under the impression that i had 4.10's because ive watched all the videos and checked the rpms through the video and mine and they were exact on the dot. **edit**70mph/2000rpms(threw it in fifth today). so whats the deal? 4.10's or 3.08's? please help.
**and what gears come stock on the 95 gt?**

Depends what was ordered...3.08 was stock. My 1995 came with 3.27's because my father chose to upgrade to the 3.27's. Ford had that option when you ordered a car instead of buying off the lot.

dangit:( not what i wanted to hear. i guess the reason why i thought they might have been 4.10's is because a) the diff has definitely been takin apart before, and looks to be modified. dont kno how to explain. b) i get through the gears quick as heck, tho ive never driven a mustang with 4.10's, only seen videos. it just seems to be what everyone describes 4.10's as. all the gears pull hard all the way through and they seem to be pretty short. so who knows. third and fourth have pretty much no difference, which i like a lot! cuz it just keep on pulling like no tomorrow. and fifth is pretty much useless, there almost no power at all so i never use it

so that only leaves one question out there, how much better can it get?? looks like i may have to buy some gears after all.

I am going to do a set of 3.55's when i get moved and get a garage and shop of my own. People will say 3.73 or even 4.10 but the way i see it is if your going to do forced induction a 3.55 is a great way to go.

are you a second owner of the car? Just b/c the factory tag says it has 3.08's does not mean it does if a previous owner swapped gears in it.

70 mph at about 1500 rpm's sounds right for a 3.08. My car has never been opened up and i have 3.08's so you most likely have them.

im definitely not the first owner. previous owner did some work to it i suppose. from what i kno gt40 heads(it always sucky when you buy spark plugs for stock heads and they dont fit. lol), some crappy exhaust set up(long gone now) and a couple minor things like msd ignition modules and etc. my brother said the rear end has definitely been opened up for sure( he's a certified mechanic) so i firgured if someone went in there they prob changed gears.

hears my DD shifting
1. shift @ 20mph-3k
2. shift @ 35mph-3k
3. shift @ 45mph-3k
4. shift @ 50mph-2k
5. never use fifth

whats that sound like to you guys? i really want to get this figured out

You DEF have 3.08s.

Trust me. 70 is like 3000rpms in 5th. And I barely use anthing but 5th. Except for slow cruising in town, 5th gear is where its at.

if you want to find out for your self. jack the rearend up, rotate the tires 1 revolution(together), count how many times the d.s. rotates. just over 3=3:08, 3 1/2=3:55, 4=4:10's, etc.

Yeah that sounds like 3.08. I can't tell you what 4.10 is like because I have 3.08 too. I could be wrong, but I dont think 4.10s were an option from the factory.

4:10's for Drag Racing= Good.
4:10's for Street with a 5.0= bad.

If its a DD go with some 3:55's. Maybe 3:73 if you want 4:10's are just too much with our little 5.0's. on a 4.6 its great all around. IMO.

i wouldn't say 4:10's are bad on the 5.0's as street duty. maybe it's not ideal but it's really up to personal preferance. i wish i had the 373's, but the 410's were already on it when i got the car. so they stay.

i see. sounds like when i want to throw some gears in ill prob be going with 3.73's. heard a lot of good things abou them. want the gears to pull and have power, but i do travel some so i dont want to go to far with the 4.10's.

thanks everyone for all the responses, i really appreciate. most of the time people are like ugh, another gear thread and just ignore it. but thanks so much

95cvgt, you mileage must be crap, those are high shift points. I ALWAYS shift at 2000rpm or 1950rpm...
