Little update, now that it has gotten cold, in the mid 30 I have noticed in the morning when I start it up and drive off second grabs a lot better and slips alot less ,until the engine and trans warm up then it goes back to slipping ,and it’s still not shifting on it’s own from 1 to 2.

Probably a sticky valve body or 1-2 shift accumulator. The accumulator was redisigned in I think 98 that seals better.

Sticky valve body or stuck open 1-2 shift solenoid would be my guess then.

I replaced the entire valve body and nothing changed, gonna try to find a used wiring harness next. If that doesn’t work I’m lost.

Ok so an update, my clutches are definitely shot. I found a trans out of a 98 gt with 80k miles. I was wondering would I be able to just swap it in plug and play, or are there any wiring differences between 96 and 98 4r70w in the mustangs?

The 98 transmission is wired differently so you’d have to repin the connector.
