C & L maf and elbow surging HELP

I installed a C&L cai setup on my mostly stock 95 gt(mods are performer intake, and exhaust). The car has 24 lbs injectors and the MAF is cal'd for 24's.
Upon start up it really struggles sputtering and such. Once running it is a surging bitch at idle or when slowing.

Any help would be appreciated. I was going to pull the terminals to the batt and let it set for a few, trying to see if that helps, is there more to "remapping" than letting the car sit with no Juice for a while.

Forgive my newbie-ness, just want my stang to get up and gallop :headbang:

C&L is an aftermarket cylinder that uses a "sample tube" using stock electronics. Bad combo imo..I tried C&L in my old fox and had nothing but surging problems. You can try and let the car idle and turn the meter a little. I have heard some people have had success with that..

Your drivability is probably much worse with the 24lb injectors and that meter. I would go back to 19's without question..

BEFORE you switch back to ANYTHING....C&L's are notorious for this. I went through the same issues when I ran 24's with a C&L. Try this. Loosen the clamps on the MAF and try clocking the MAF 45 degrees at a time ...i.e. rotate it and see if it improves. It helped my setup alot. I eventually switched to 30s but I was running a HCI 331. Rotate the MAF and try to get it to work that way. You may be surprised.

Lafen: The previous setup was a k&n filter with the stock airbox w/24lb injectors just a smaller maf car ran really well. Not sure why such a dramatic difference now . I have Definitely considered going back to that setup.

Ryclef:Thanks for the advice it is much appreciated, I would really like to get this setup to work! I have heads and a B-Cam waiting to go on/in just wanted to get this mod done and workin well first. On my way to check these I saw the sticky on Surging Idle trouble :BangHead: DOH. I'll try that after the clocking.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen

Update

Ryclef:
So I clocked the Maf today and sadly no luck , however several things come to mind I hope you don't mind me giving too much detail I do appreciate your input so here goes.

Moved Maf from 12:00 to 9:00 thought it was improved but didn't stay improved startup was still awful.
Moved Maf from 12:00 to 6:00 worse...
Moved Maf from 12:00 to 3:00 same as initial 12:00 position.

As I sit here somewhat dejected a few things come to mind.

1) How long should I allow the car to run to see if it is in the process of sorting itself out?(re learning?)
2) After each re-clock should I disconnect the battery to let the comp re-map?
3) My car has a Maximum Motorsports Strut Tower brace so the unit is twisted a little making the air filter point up a slight amount skyward.

I greatly appreciate your advice just want to make sure I wasn't following directions poorly :notworthy:

Its hit or miss. You don't have to reset the computer everytime you clock it. It should be an instant noticable difference. I'd revert back to the mass that worked initially. By chance, are you SURE the C&L Maf is for a GT and NOT a Cobra b/c they WILL be different. Cobra and GT have the same MAFs Stock and the injector size difference is made up in the tune. As for that B-Cam, what heads are you planning on? B-Cams are rather outdated and definetly don't get along well with the 94-95 ECUs

Ryclef:
The Heads are Edelbrock performers They have been professionally ported and polished, that said the engine builder that did the work said they probably wouldn't support much more than 300-350 rwhp . I bought the c&l used not sure how to tell if its for the gt or cobra, It has the black sample tube fwiw. I was figuring that i'd try putting the maf that was working in place with the c&l pipe and take it from there (After I try the list of things in the surging article). I'll update after the next roud, Thanks for all the input everyone!

Was the old maf you had, calibrated for 24# injectors? or is the car chipped?
