Cam question, different than the usual

So, I'm tempted to put a cam in my stock 95 Cobra motor. The reason behind this, is the heads are much better than the stock (E7's?) have.

I don't wanna buy a set of heads right now, I wanna save for some AFR 185's or something like that, but I've found some good deals on cam's.

What cam would work nice on my motor? It just has an intake, LT's, exhaust, and will be on nitrous in about a month or so. Got everything I need, just need a window switch and some other odds and ends.

Also, a guy sent me PM on Corral, saying he has a chip he'd sell me that would allow ANY cam to work. Of course, not all cams will work unless I get better valve springs and other head related parts. He said that as long as I stayed with the stock 24lb injectors and MAF, it would provide a tune, and allow any cam to work. Anyone have any knowledge to this mail order chip?
Idea's on a good cam? I like the E cam, TFS1 seems nice but doubt it'll work for my engine.

Thanks.

no on the chip for now use a steeda 18, 19, or trickflow stage1, b or e 303 cams to narrow it down for you

I would wait until you get you heads and have a custom ground cam done.

It may be a while on heads.... My casted GT40's wont flow good enough for a measly small cam?

They do it has been proven that the gt40 irons are good heads. Why not have them ported and also do a cam? There are tons of proven 300+ combos for your current heads.

Your going to want to stay under .500 lift with stock springs.

If you really want to do a cam I would do either the Steeda 19, or the E-Cam.

Those are good grinds and proven power makers.

Hmmm, I may just have them ported, didn't think about that...

With the heads ported, I can then go with a bit nicer cam, right? Also, won't I need better valve springs too? I think the engine already has roller rockers, what else should I upgrade?

Yea, I like the E cam alot, haven't heard an exhaust clip of the Steeda 19 yet.

If you want a cam that has more lift then .500 you'll need new springs. New springs is not a bad idea if they are the originals anyways.

Yeah probably look into doing springs regardless of cam. #19 has a nice sound to it, probably a lil less aggressive than the E in terms of lopey.

Idk what it is; but I love that E cam...

Is it ok to buy a used cam?

Yea, I'd get better valve springs and retainers. I'll prolly get the heads hogged out, I like that idea the best.

Now, what about this mail order chip that provides a tune and allows any size cam on the stock ECU as long as you have 19/24lb injectors and the stock MAF?

I asked about it on a local forum, they have nothing but good things to say about it.

Also, I wanna go with the most aggressive cam possible now since I'm getting the heads done. Any other suggestions? Yes, I'm getting stiffer valve springs and better retainers.

If your going to get your heads ported and are willing to spend the money on a set of springs, I would do the Crane 2031 cam.

The 2031 was designed around the 93-95 Cobra motor/GT40 Head. If you arn't going to do the springs I would look at the E Cam.

I like the sound of the E-303 cam... never heard the crane 2031 cam... any vids?

Agreed, I'd like some vids of various cams.

I've heard a few from youtube, nothing from steeda or crane yet though.

i would go with something different than the e-cam. its old technology. not saying its not a good cam but there are better out there. i would port the gt40s and get a better intake than the one u have and go with like the steeda 19 or the tfs1 or the 2031. all three are good cams, and they are dual pattern cams which means the intake and exhaust have different lift and duration profiles. the exhaust ports on factory 302 heads like that are pretty lacking and with a cam with more exhaust lift and duration should help compensate for that. dont pick a cam that has the most lope to it. go with the one that best suites ur combo
