Old thread but an update. I really wanted the ported GT 40 heads from Big Dog Porting but I gave up on them after a 4 month wait and numerous excuses. I bought AFR 165's. I carried the heads along with the upper and lower ported gt40 intake that I had bought from Big Dog, Comp 266hr cam , BBK shorty headers, Scorpian 1.6 rockers, 24LB injectors, 24lb mass air meter to a shop yesterday. It will be dyno tuned and I will give an update on horsepower and torque when I get it back next week. Over 300 hp and I will be happy but....the more the merrier.

The afr's were about twice as much as the ported GT40'S were going to be but I made a little money from selling the Willys pick up and found a good deal on a clean, bone stock 75,000 mile Mustang, so I am reinvesting.

Nice man! I've kind of put my engine on the back burner for the time being, as it's going in for paint first. I was really leaning towards just going the crate motor route and being done with it all at once. My motor seems fine, but it's getting tired at 157k on the clock. I'd hate to put H/C/I on and then something let go, and be right back at square one looking at a rebuild and all that labor again. It's also developed a couple of leaks I haven't had a chance to track down yet.

For what its worth, My old engine started ( 153k ) leaking out the rear main seal. Replacing did no good. turns out I had excessive clearance in the mains, still ran/sounded good and good oil pressure.
Hell it made 734hp LOL

if the afr's were only twice as much as ported gt40's you were getting ripped off on the gt40s. A good upgrade either way but you will certainly not be sorry now that they are paid for.

I had about decided on the TW 190 Rs as those would clear stock pistons per my research. This was before I decided on a crate motor.

Summit AFR heads...$1826.59. Bigdog Porting GT40 heads (he furnished the explorer 3 bar heads) $1,085. I would send you a post of the flow that he ''says'' is getting out of these heads but I don't want to advertise for him. He kept giving me dates when they would be ready and then excuses of why they weren't. Like I said, I waited 4 months for these heads. He told me he was working on them about the middle of the 2nd month. I had already bought his ported upper and lower GT 40 intake. He ports the upper which is rare to be ported.

its been so long since I put heads on my car that just last week when I saw someone selling trickflow heads used for $200 more than I paid for mine new I was a little confused. Prices have gone up a bit on heads over the past 10 years I guess....

Little disappointed with the horsepower but it has a nice torque curve. Horsepower 292 at 5,400 rpm. Torque 325 at 3,930 rpm. After I asked him he told me that he wasn't impressed with the "ported" upper and lower GT 40 intake and it made about what he expected from my combo. I was led to believe that my Big Dog ported upper and lower were going to make a night and day difference than just a regular GT40 upper and lower upper. Proves that you can't always believe what internet salesmen say and good reviews can come from the click of a key.

In the shop
292rwhp is pretty good from stock heads and intake. Should make for a fun cruiser!

It would be great for stock heads and intake but the heads were aluminum AFR 165's and the intake was ported, upper and lower with Comp XE266 HR cam (.544/.555 lift) I was looking to get at least 300 hp, but it is what it is. It is just a driver, not a racer so that is enough. Sounds good to boot!
