what kind of cam are you running in your pushrod motor and why did you choose that specific cam. ups and downs of your cam etc...

i am currently waiting to order my cam (lack of funds) but its from comp cams and is the 35-314-8 part number. i chose this one with my head intake and other goodies i have on my motor this cam i feel will benefit the most for me.

i'm running a bullet cam that was suggest to me from a guy i knew. I now feel like I should have gone with a custom grind though...

ya honestly...i just looked up that comp cam and its like 300 dollars, for a little more you can get a custom cam and i'd go that way. best to go with that the first time...

Went with a Custom cam from FTI ( Ed Curtis ) and have been very pleased with it. No issues regrets or complaints about it.

dont buy into the custom cam name, its a cam cut to specs the maker chooses, ex they make one cam for each set up not per car means 94-95-head, intake, blower has a cam, 94-95 head, intake, nitrious has a cam, and 94-95 n/a has a cam. i could be wrong but its funny how 2 differents cars i have had ended up with the same "custom" cam. so look for specs you want not a name tag

I got the TFS cam I like it and it was only a100 new in a box..

trick flow stage 1 cam. Mild idle but still a nice lope, good power and a proven runner as well with the twisted wedge heads I got. Bought them both at different times when they were on sale and saved a good chunk of change.

I degreed my cam...still waiting to see if it made a difference but it should. When i put my cam in "dot to dot" it turned out to be 4* too far advanced

I'm running one of comps blower cams, I forget the specs. It's a pretty good size lift and duration, I can't run it without aftermarket pistons and deep reliefs. Grind # FW 284H-R14. Part # 35-306-8 I'm making about 13# of boost with Vic jr heads on a 306. Engine pulls pretty hard with this cam.

I just bought a TFS 1 cam, still havent installed it on my car, i choose this cam from advice i got here on the forum and cause its one of the best cams for a mild modded 5.0.

Its a lot more involved then that, they dont have a cookie cutter formula for what kind of cam to give you. If two guys get similar cams then they have similar set ups. Custom cam does not mean that everyone who has one has a cam far different from everyone else. You cant even tell mine has a cam from the idle, it sounds stock yet is not. You pay for a lot of experience and know how when it comes to custom cams.

actually they do, you say your valve train they give you a cam for what you want to use it for (rpm range, street/strip, race) they do use their personal specs but they still have a list. for i true custom cam send them your motor. just because you have the same name brand parts doesnt mean they are the same (pi head vs pi head one will flow better than the other)

That was with the TF stage 1 cam, not sure what would have happened with a custom grind cam as there wasn't a selection for it. I have heard that the mail order tunes can work if you have the correct data-collection gear to measure everything, make a few adjustments and get it to where you want it over a few tunes right? How is a custom cam supposed to know all the same stuff and nail it perfectly????

now a custom tune IS a cookie cutter formula. You will always get better performance with a dyno tune then a mail order chip b/c on the dyno they can actually see what is going on with the car and make adjustments accordingly. With a mail order chip they have to assume what the car is doing and then tune it on the extra safe side so they they dont blow your car up.

i think that by getting a custom grind cam, when all said and done you probably couldve ordered one from comp, crane etc... and paid less for the same cam. just my opinion
