I have a 96 Cobra with BBK long tube headers and I want to replace my TOB. Does
anyone out there know if I can drop the tranny without pulling a header or
headers or can I slide the tranny back far enough to get in there without
actually dropping it? It looks really tight!

Thanks in advance guys!

If you can remove the bellhousing from the transmission, yes.

I did it

You can but it is NOT easy and requires at least 2 people and lots of twisting/prying...

I have bassani mid lengths and I was barely able to drop my manual t45 without removing the headers. It took two people and i lot of wiggling and eventually just letting the thing drop out itself. Getting it back on is even harder then removing it though lol good luck!

the last 2 cars i had to replace a clutch on with long tubes, i was not able to remove the trans without taking the header off. now If you are able to un bolt the trans from the bellhousing, then it shouldnt be a problem..

Would be a really rough propostion. I have done it on a lift with a trans jack, but on the floor....

Also depends on the brand of headers and clearance avaliable.

I did it with a T-5 in a V6 with long tubes, but I don't think that the Cobra trans with its integral bellhousing would be very easy.

I think you'll have to drop the passenger side header and I'm pretty sure the only way to remove the bell housing is from the inside.

Yea the bell housing is only unbolt able from inside and that's only on 3650's . T45's no dice. Personally it's going to be a big **** to get out with the long tubes. I just don't bother fighting anymore and drop the k member

I can do it I'm just to lazy to persuade I can have it it out faster then fighting it. I've done it twice before and said I'll never do it again. I end up choked with busted knuckles and blood all over the place. My hands are pretty fat

Is the auto trans smaller then a manual? I cant see getting a t45 out with long tubes. mid lengths were near impossible on the ground but i eventually got them with a little help.
