Ok car isnt starting, battery good. engine wasnt turning. Brought to automotive shop, Fallston Automotive group, and they diagnosed it as a starter. I purchased a brand new starter, then had people help me push car out of lot, I put it in 2nd, and then dropped clutch and drove it home. Now, with new starter installed, didnt start. Bypass tested the new starter, it worked, and the old one which worked as well... Also, after a few attempts at starting it, there is smoke coming from the ebrake cable..I tore out the center console to see if any wires were causing it, its coming right from cable. Me, my moms boyfriend, my neighbor who had a mustang, and my other neighbor who built planes are all trying to help and nothing so far. If anyone has suggestions, please offer help. If you live in bel air area and would like to come check it out...greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nate

I am not as familiar with the 5.0 as I am with my ranger but it had the same problem years ago that I traced the starter relay that controled teh selenoid. It was easy to test as I just jumped power across it and it would start to crank. it was an easy fix on the ranger and cheap too. Trace the power wire from the starter and see if ti leads to the relay

dumb question I know, but did you happen to check any fuses? Start simple and in the fuseboxes. Do not even bother with the manual but just go in and pull and check them all. Actually takes less time then using the manual and then ou can be sure they are all good.

don't forget the high amp fuses by the battery infact I might even start there.

you could bypass the starter relay for a test only by using a jumper cable from the battery to the starter. just jake sure the trans is in neutral.

Did it. Tested old one as well, and it worked, so there was 99$ (might as well change it its 15 years old)

As of now, I am gonna see if you guys can help any with something odd, then ill bring it to a shop. Literally 6 mechanically inclined guys and me were working on it from 9am to 3pm, and tested A to Z.. It must be something with the wiring that we cant diagnose. That is where i am right now.

I have seen where the battey ground can become corroded and not make a good enough connection. Try taking it off(righ next to the batt) and make sure you are on bare metal.

Battery is brand new, even changed the connectors on it. Put out 12V all around to the starter..

wow bud I really have no clue. Did u check the fuses visually or with a meter? sometimes they look fine but are bad. Did this hapen all of a sudden or after some modding? you could also check the switch under the clutch pedal if thats bad the car wont crank either

I went to work at 10am, and then when i got off at 11, it just didnt start. No modding. And my two neighbors had voltage readers and made sure the starter was getting voltage, and it was. And i might check out the clutch pedal thing..

AND might help, the car has been all wired up for a stereo setup, before the previous owner repurchased the vehicle. The radio has not been hooked up since i got it, so i didnt think it was that.. But then again some hot wires could have been rubbing against something then finally tore? But that seems like after multiple years, a little farfetched..

the clutch switch is a good idea and could be preventing it from starting. Stick yer head up and you will see the switch near the top of the pedal. Try jumping the two wires that are on it and see if it will turn.

I tried recharging the battery overnight, figuring i mightve overlooked that, but it still didnt start. I am going to double check the starter relay switch i guess.. I am out of guesses, i am going to go to the auto store and get a maintenance booklet and just troubleshoot all the wires :/

Relay switch can cause a big problem also like other people said the Grounds.

So what was it?? Now it's time for you to buy some wheels :)
Well it ended being the wires from to the starter :BangHead: which i checked :BangHead: but i guess somewhere they rubbed against something and i couldnt tell. Replaced those. But when all said and done, got a new starter, ignition switch, battery connectors.. It runs now thought thats good.

And the wheels? Yes i do need some. My front right one leaks too, which means might as well get some new shoes :) But me being 17, my insurance on my car is bitch and the money is due within a few days :sad5: Whenever i save up enough, and yours wheels are for sale, i will let you know!
