98 GT w/ an auto 190k miles
new plugs/wires, fresh oil change. ZERO mods down to the paper filter.

Under medium to heavy acceleration its pinging like crazy. I have to run 93 octane just to keep it under control, doesn't always help. I've run sea foam through the tank, marvel, barrymans chemtool, etc. I can't get my scanner(laptop w/ an aldl cable) to report the timing or the knock retard for some reason, but it doesn't always recognize all cars.
If I run the sea foam or marvel through the intake should this help?
Its just a shame that its giving me this issue, otherwise the car has been awesome. I would just assume that since the previous owner was an older lady all she did was fill up w/ whatever was cheapest and its got carbon build up like crazy in it.

which weight oil are you using? are you sure its a ping or a lash adjuster tapping? pinging would lean towards a knock.

Clean the MAF sensor and do the battery disconnect/ECM reconfigure thing and try it again. Go to a parts store and get the CRC brand MAF cleaner only. Don't use carb cleaner or anything like that on it. Way too harsh on it. Runs about $6 a can. I had a "pinging" isuue with mine about a year ago. The pinging stopped and my mileage, on paper, actually went up.

Really? I have the same issue, but my car has supposedly been diablo tuned(I was told). I just assumed they had advanced the timing too far.

This is entirely possible! Do you know where the timing is set? More than 14* BTDC with 92 octane can be a problem. Can you put the stock tune back in temporarily to test it?

The MAF cleaning, to me, should be a checklist item before any tune or dyno run. Debris from the filter can contaminate it. Especially from an "oiled" K&N filter.

You might clean the TB while your at it.

i'm not sure, its wet out and i'm not about to go beat on it in the rain.

is it normal for it to continue smoking after 30+ mins of running? it smells like burned ass so i'm sure its not a head gasket.

when i ran seafoam through my gas, it would puff smoke for days... i ran it with shell v-power. it never really smoked for a long, steady amount of time. just off and on untill my gas tank was empty.

then i ran it through my oil, it didnt smoke at all.

then we ran it through my friend's 5.0's intake. it smoked like crazy for about 15 minutes, then stopped and hummed like it was brand new.
