the stator inside the distributor controls ignition and also fuel injector pulse as it servers as the cam and crank sensor for the eec.

you will need a press to swap the pickup properly. ford sensors are the best vs a auto parts version. if you do choose to get a reman'd distributor check the shaft end play as they are rebuilt for quantity and not quality

Watch the tach when you try to start the car. Does it move on the instances the car won't start? If not it would just be another sign pointing toward the dizzy, I had the same issue back in the fall, as well as the car routinly shutting off running down the interstate at 70+.

I bought a new distributor from Advance, which has solved both issues. It wasn't much more than the remanufactured piece, not sure how it will hold up over time, but it does have a lifetime warranty.

every one on here is prob right.. but the first thing i like to do is check for codes.. that's what its for to help you diagnose problems..

Depends on your funds. Reman ones can run fine, Ive had one in mine since Ive owned it for the past 5 years now but I have an OEM one for a back up just in case. If you do decide to buy a new one just get a Ford one, dont spring the the price of an MSD. Ford makes better internal electronics then the aftermarket ones to begin with.

An Electrical issue such as the PIP, TFI, Distributor itself will not throw a code
