This thread was really useful. I have a similar problem, just add lack of power at low end. I'll check the base timing and the Idle Control motor to see if it helps.

It could be any number of things. My stator(hall effect sensor) recently took a crap at only 66,000 miles. It very well could be something in the distributor but it might not. Do you know anyone else around you who has a car with no issues? You could start swapping parts back and forth until you fix your problem and then just order that part and be good to go. If not, get out there with a mulitmeter and start troubleshooting.

Have you checked all your grounds? Sometimes bad grounds make cars do weird shit. When I was chasing down my ignition gremlin I took a multimeter to the block and I kept getting .003-.008 volts on my block with the POS stock strap. I replaced the stock grounding strap with two 4 gauge battery cables (one on each side of the motor) and my block now reads 0.0-.001 volts.

Other stuff I can think of would be old spark plugs, bad plug wires, TFI sensor, bad coil or a bad cap/rotor. The the TFI sensor usually doesn't go bad on our cars like it does on the foxes but it still is known to fail. Pull the cap off your distributor and look at the stator. If there is a slivery dust all up in there and on the stator that is the likely culprit. Changing the stator requires you pull the dizzy and remove the shaft but it can be done with hand tools, punches, a bfh and some patience. I just did mine last week.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try it when I get some more time. Right now i'm trying to decide whether i'm keeping it or not, so i'm not touching it at the moment, to much going on. It runs strong and fine, so I doubt its the coil or stator, it just has a slight lope to the idle, more then any stock 5.0 i've ever heard.
