Im running a custom o/r h-pipe and 2 chamber flows on my 96 gt. Its pretty loud but im looking for a different sound. I want to lower the db's a little. If i swap out just the mid pipe for a catted one, will it do the trick? Would i need to change my mufflers too? If so, what can i install that will not hurt my performance?

In order:

Yes.

No.

Any well-made catted x-pipe. (e.g. Mangaflow, Bassani, BBK, etc)

kenne bell did some dyno testing... and even on 700+ HP 2005 mustangs they have 0 horsepower loss with OEM cats added to the exhaust set up...

i suggest a hi-flow personally because they tend to be smaller in case you need some more clearance...

a cat will help muffle your exhuast, but not a whole lot... it sounds like exactly what youre looking for...

Doesn't matter. All will make equivalent power with negligible differences. Just pick one you like that fits your budget.

i just put a dr. gas x pipe on my car from a generic o/r x and it made the inside of the car quieter. and it sounds way better and smoother. also feels stronger too. just put it on last night no time for a good video clip yet. if your car is a 5spd then i recommend getting one. its not quite "bolt on" mid pipe. comes in 5 pieces and may require a lil trimming which in my opinon is better cause every car is a lil different. the fitment is much better than the old one too and it hugs the floorboard. if you dont have a welder like i dont then get 4 exhaust clamps. it will work temporarily until you can get it welded. totally different design and much more advanced. i have a few pics i took after i took the old one out.

yeah, ive always wanted one of those mid pipes. I knew they were worth the money. But I live in California and unfortunately, ive been stopped a few times for my car being "too loud". So im hoping i can score a cheap used catted mid pipe for now till i get these damn tickets squared away. Post a clip when you get a chance.

you can purchase cats to put behind the midpipe if you need cats. definitely save your money, everything about it is better and it fits better too cause its really a custom fit to your car.

not really anymore expensive than a bassani catted x pipe. i would still rather have the dr. gas unit over the bassani x anyday of the week
