This is the same exhaust system w/ an O/R h pipe. Its hard to pick up just how loud it really was but when driving it was very very loud. That's why I went to the catted X pipe. My friend mike who was doing the taping had to literally yell b/c it was so loud and being in the garage made it that much worse.

The difference in flow between chambered and straight through designs as far as flow is concerned isn't great enough to make a decision on that alone.
Straight through designs use glass packing or some other similar type of insulation to absorb the sound as the exhaust gases pass through the muffler. They also have a distinctive sound that you wont often get from a chambered muffler. It's often a deep mellow muffled sound and doesn?t change allot in pitch. The disadvantage to the straight through design glass packed mufflers is that this glass packing deteriorates over time and as this happens the muffler gets louder and louder. They tend to drone allot too.
Chambered mufflers reduce noise by using baffles that reflect sound waves at each other and cancel them out. There are literally hundreds of different kinds on the market but they all work on the same principal. These mufflers will last a long time if the materials they are made of are stainless steel and there sound does not change as they get older as long as the integrity of their chambers stays intack. They also have a distinct sound common to most of them. Their sound is throatier and the range of sound is greater. They have a more mechanical sound to them. They can sound deep at low RPM and get higher pitched at higher RPM. Some also have that crackling sound as you let off the throttle. Some of the quieter ones with more baffles don't flow as well but often still flow much better than a stock muffler so you'll still get some good gains in torque so long as you don't mess with the stock piping. The chambered mufflers also vary more in sound due to the fact that the baffles in them from one design to the next can vary allot.
With the glass packed mufflers they all basically sound similar except in the sound level that they allow depending on the amount of glass packing they have in them and the size of the muffler. Obviously the larger mufflers with more glass packing absorb more sound than the smaller ones.
