Charcoal/Carbon Canister

So I brought my car in to get it smogged, and I don't know if they actually did the test, or just looked under the hood, cause they told me that it failed, and that it needs a new oil cap (kind of, almost, understandable since the top part is broken off of mine.) Second they said that I'm missing the charcoal/carbon canister. Do you think they just didn't see it and failed me, because it's under the fender? I'm kinda ticked. :rant2:

Thanks

Nevermind, I went back and they showed me the paper, and my car passed with flying colors. Unfortunately the oil cap was a legit automatic fail. Unlike the carbon canister, which the guy simply said "I couldn't find it when I looked." which I replied to with, "of course you wouldn't unless you pulled the fender." "Oh, that's where it is on those Mustangs?"

Come on...

No idea, I've never had to take it out... I just know where it is because I had to search for it when the guy said mine was missing... Seeing as he didn't even know where to check, I doubt he really knew if it was missing. I wouldn't assume it is worth much for weight savings though.

Does anyone have a picture of where it is? I'd really appreciate it.

i dont have a picture but it is about 6 inches lower than your antenna hole in the fender, and as far as weight,
i think the canister itself weighs about 3 pounds.

That's what I thought too, but the guy at the smog shop said that since that isn't where it is on his diagram (for 89-95 Mustangs) it isn't his job to take off the fender to check it.

the 87-93 charcoal canister is hanging off the inner fender, about a foot below the air filter box.

No worries, my purpose was done here. :thumb:

I don't think it would run right, because I had problems with my purge canister solenoid, which is in line with the carbon canister, and my car ran like shit. Good luck guys. Hope it works.
