first off, I'm new to the forums so I'm sorry if this is a dumb question or has been answered before. But I am looking into getting a new mid pipe for my 97 GT only problem is I want to get rid of the cats but keep that darn check engine light off, how would one go about doing this, if at possible thanks in advance!

This might only be for us 5.0 guys but Ill chime in with my offroad xpipe since it was my most recent mod....I had a stock H with four cats and tore it out to put in an o/r X, not only do you also have to remove and cap off part of the EGR system that connects from your air pump to your stock H and also to your passenger side head. I have yet to throw a code but again I still have intact the EGR system that connects from the passenger side header to the intake/ TB and I have heard if you take that off it will cause the system to throw a code. Just some info...not sure how well it will work on a 97 though as it is different.

Would you even mess with a mid pipe then? is it really worth the money (all im looking for is sound btw) i love loud idling cars. Im going to getting the american thunder dump exhaust from flowmaster, would that be enough?

Are they simple enough to install? This is my first Mustang and don't really want to have a shop do the install

97 you need mil elimantors. I have a new set I will sell for like 45 shipped. Pm me if interested. They go in between the 02 sensors.

I knew there was something special...I couldnt think of the name though...MIL eliminators will stop any Check Engine light. As for it being worth it...yes it is worth it as it will bring out an incredible exhaust note that all mustangs have.

Here's a very good site that is having a great sale, same place I got my o.r X at

No I dont believe so, you will have to purchase the MIL eliminators though which will hook up to your o2s

i thought the mustang had 4 o2 sensors 2 before the cats and 2 after, and if i got a mid pipe with no cats wouldn't i need the other two o2 sensors? all this exhaust talk is driving me crazy!

So your saying you think you will have 6 oxygen sensors? False. You will continue to have 2 before where your cats used to be and 2 after but you will need the MIL eliminators for the rear ones as they will then throw a code and they will stop you from having a check engine light.

What you need to do this.

Make sure to plug the MIL eliminators into the rear 02 sensors and not the front.
And you may have to break off the alignment tabs to get them to line up.

yeah, i had to only on one of the mil eliminators, however when i installed the bbk o/r xpipe, i didn't install the eliminators right away (because they shipped a day late) I didnt get a check engine light. which is strange to me because as far as i know my car had never been custom tuned? so kinda curious to why that happened.

This information is spot on! How ever I have heard that the pypes o/r x pipe is suer crappy fitment, so while the price is good id spend a little bit more for either a bbk o/r x or a UPR one..

I did the same thing for the same reason, it took about a week for the light to come on.

Finally!

The light came on after about a solid month lol, i drove down to my advanced auto parts and used them to clear the codes hasn't came back on since, but my problem was it came on with the eliminators installed? i know i installed them correctly and not sure how that happened maybe just too humid here in ohio?
