Chemical Guys Paint Correction Question

Okay, so I just polished my car...2 coats of Jet Seal and 1 coat of this Black LIght or something from Chemical Guys. I'm kind of a lazy person, but since I decided I'm no longer going to spend money on the car, I'll spend my time polishing it. At least it will look nice.

So the big thing is, I have minor swirly things going on in the paint and I just want to get rid of it so the car looks real nice. You can't notice it unless you are up close, but I want to get rid of them. I know Chemical Guys sells the paint correction. However, which one should I get since there are 3. And then there are these V34 Optical polishes? Could someone tell me which stuff I should get? And do I need to wash off the Jet Seal or can I apply it on now?

And what are the steps. Like do I do need to redo the Jet Seal or it should be okay?

Sorry I forgot to mention, I do this all by hand. And yes my arm is sore afterwards. I have one that my Uncle got me, but I'm afraid I'll go and damage the car, so I haven't touched one. Plus I don't know if this one is any good. I have to post specs up when probably another day and see what you all think. Can you do this paint correction stuff by hand. I prefer that route for now.

just spend the extra cash and buy the porter cable... You really can only polish once you have a machine

if you have a dual action polisher like a porter cable or flex, you will not mess up the paint.. i had no idea what i was doing when i got mine, i just found out what polishes go with what pads and went to town. ive watched a bunch of videos on how to use a porter cable, but nothing beats just going out and using it.

You can get a cheap buffer but they take more time than a PC and the pads add up quick.
Mid to heavy swirls by hand would be tough and take forever.
You'll want a machinge and good cutting polish.
Then you'll seal it up again with Jetseal once the polishing is done.

I'm going to go and check what I have tomorrow since it's like 11:30 and the garage isn't attached. I think it is a porter cable and it came with these polishing things but it looks like crappy foam pads and stuff. I just need to buy new pads. The thing was I thought you need to have varying speeds and that's why you should have a dual action polisher. I guess you just don't keep it in one spot too long and then you're fine.

It must be a Porter Cable 7424 or 7424Xp. If its not one of those units, dont use it.

It definitely isn't one of those. Maybe I should invest in a decent one. I wouldn't mind spending the money. Are there any recommendations? And should I get a dual action polisher or a porter cable?

you'll be happy going with one.
Porter Cable with some good pads. I believe Obsessive Detail and CG has some packages with the polisher and pads etc.

I wasn't sure if I should go with one of those. But I'm sure they are better than most stuff out there. I'll probably pick one up soon. I want to get this thing shined up over my winter break since I'll have time. In which case. Now that leaves me with which paint correction to get. I have no seriously deep scratches. It's mostly swirls or those minor scratches. But I don't know if I should go with like the Paint Correction 1 or 2? Or just one of them. Thanks all for the help.

CG V36 & V38 would be the best choice for you.

If you spend more than $100 at CG this month you get a free 16oz of any product.... So if you buy a porter cable you could get a bottle of V36 Polish for free.

The porter-cable D/A is the best polisher for the beginner and is used by most professionals worldwide.

I think he was talking about this below:

http://www.chemicalguys.com/Porter_Cable_7424XP_Foam_Pad_Kit_Car_Buffer_p/buf_209.htm

And I found your swirl removal video. I'm going to follow that for the paint correction. I haven't watched it yet but I'm sure it explains how to do it pretty well. And now whats the deal with pads? Like should I use a new pad for each wax and what pad should I use. Like for Jet Seal. Would I use a black pad then a red or just go red all the way.

There are several good units on the market, the PC isn't the end-all be-all. Flex makes a good unit, and the Griot's Garage DA is a good machine as well.

OP, you're confused. Polishing=correcting the paint; putting on sealant is not polishing the paint--polishing the paint is what you do with a DA, when you actually remove swirls with polish. Also, a Porter Cable is a DA, probably the most common type.

And no, you can't screw it up. The PC will bog down on you before you burn your paint.

I prefer the V36/V38 over the 721/778; both do an excellent job, but the V36/V38 dust much less and have a nice long work time.
