I'm in need of a clear-coat on my (thinking it's laser) red GT. I know a completely new paint job would be in the few thousand range, is it worth it just to get a good clear coat? No idea what cost for that is.

Generally you cant shoot just the clear

Is you clear cracked/flaking or just faded?

Well it's got one spot the size of a silver dollar that's peeled off (not getting any bigger yet though) a couple faded spots and one spot that looks like it literally got burned or something.

it's the age of the beast. Mine is doing the same thing. You might be able to to put some clear over the spot so it doesn't get any worse but it will still look like arss.
Just save up for an all over painting, and do it right.

Alright, that sucks but I guess it's gonna need it some day. For now though, would using clay, polish and a good wax really make much of a difference till I get the money for paint?

be careful around the areas the clearcoat is peeling off, but polsih might help those faded areas.
