Hey guys, long time reader, never poster. lol the car is a 95 Stang Convert... Anyways i have searched and i cant seem to find out whats going on with my aode. I was driving it the other day in a little stop and go traffic. at one of the red lights when i went to pull away it started slipping pretty bad. still shifted fine but in all forward gears it would slip. I pull over and check the fluid level and it was just a tad low so i topped it off. That made it even worse. it was barely pull its self in any forward gear, but you could still hear and feel it shifting fine thru all the gears even overdrive. i get home and was going to back it in the garage expecting a fight to get it up the slight grade but reverse works perfect... no slip or anything, It happened instantly. I pulled teh pan off and everything seems to be in order. even took the the valve body off to check it. I was leaning a little toward maybe the EPC... What do you guys think? Thanks

my 94 aode sn95 drove me sooo crazy I sold the car for $1500 and this was back in 03 or 04 used to do all sort of crazy shit!

it did what you described, it used to go through the gears while in driving speed! I was once driving on I-4 at about 70mph the car was apparantly in 4th gear at highway speed and suddenly it decided that it wanted to be in 2nd gear! luckily it was late and i didnt have a line of cars behind me! the very next morning it decided while stopped at a light that it wanted to take off in 3rd or 4th gear... I immediately took the car to ford and they replace the transmissions control module! it was good for about 6-8 months and then it starts slipping all the time! the only way to get the car rolling was to manual shift it! i get the car back to ford and the tranny is shot! new tranny im good!!! so i thought :( a year later the process starts all over again...

All in all I went through 2 transmission modules and 2 tranny's none of which were under any warranty so my advise to you is if your tranny is shot! and you dont want to conver to a T-5 then dump the "e" and go aod

I would'nt ever buy anything with an aode box in again, i've had trouble with 2 so far the 3rd ones been good so far [it cost enough], but i have yet to be convinced these are a sound box.

The old 95 had problems that you OP and Venemous posted. I ended up blowing it up before the EX took it. I would just swap out for a manual or take it to someone that specializes in Auto's

Could be anything.

Speed sensor, front band could be going..

Buy a bottle of lucas transmission fix and see what happens.

AODE's are actually pretty strong transmissions. A good shift kit and trans cooler that trans can take 400HP easy.

when i got my car at 127k the guy i bought it from said it had a hard time shifting from 3 to 4. well when i got it i didn't notice it, a few months later it was shuttering and slipping like crazy. i was pissed cause i thought i bought a melon, well i took it into the shop and they reset the ECM put new fluid (apparently it had never ben changed), and put this BG tran fluid product in it. so for it shifts firm with no problems a year and 5k miles later.

5k is'nt that far, but probably a long way for an aode.
My car has 55 thou on the clock and its had 3 boxes and reading other forums faulty boxes seem to be the norm. :(
I've got pairs of trainers with more miles on than that.

That's crazy that you have gone through 3. I've never heard of that before.

The AODE/4R70W is actually a very good trans. The only issue I have ever has in mine was the front band went bad which can happen to anyone.

I was thinking of just swaping in a t-5 but the whole reason i bought the car was to cruise in. plus i am lazy. The way it just suddenly started slipping still gets me tho. I flushed the fluid reset the computer no help. the car had a electonic B & M shift kit in it when i bought it. When ever i turn it on the tranny actually pulls better. still wont pull its self out of its way but still better. I went ahead and bought a new EPC Solenoid and will probably be putting it in sometime this week. I will let you guys know how it goes.

your tranny is toast...

And the AODE is not a strong as a 4R70W. They're really 2 different trannies all together. I have had nothing but problems with AODEs, AODs and E4ODs... they all suck balls... c4, c6 or borg-warner/tremec are the only transmissions that I will ever use... (or a TKO if I had the $$$)

Rebelyell..

Other than the 1998+ having a hardened input shaft, the 4R70W has the wide ratio gearset that has the one way mechanical diode.

Other than that the transmissions are virtually identical.

What makes them so much different?

BTW..this info is comming from both Karl Baumann and Performance Automatic.

I'm under the impression that the 4r70w replaced the AODE and is a better built stronger trans... And the 4r70w bolts up to modular motors, the AODE bolts up to small blocks...

I just really hate ford auto trannies... They all suck... except for the c4/c6... never had a problem with them...

Well got off my lazy rear last night and pulled the pan off. Pulled it off straight down and it looks like the filter came with it. the gasket was still in hole. Do the filters act like a pickup for these trannys? either way i went ahead replaced the EPC and got a new filter. lowered the car added the fluid and dropped her into D and went for a Cruise. Problem solved. Hope fully for a while at least. Tranny has 180k on her. Another note i think the failure of the EPC was due to that B & M electronic shift kit. Every time i would turn that on i would hear this awful buzzing noise come from tranny. The only time i would use it was when the car went to the track. {Gt40 headed car} Any one have any experience with those shift kits?

Not to bad. You have to pull the pan off. Take the Shift selector roller fork off. take the sensor on the case of the tranny off that holds the rooster part of the gear selector off. pull that shaft to where its about out of the tranny. take the epc solenoid bracket off and there she is, easy to get out. lube the new one good so the rubber gasket does not roll and reinstall it all back the way it came out.

I have A 4800Rpm Stall Converter with A trans brake on my stock Rebuilt AODE, with 600hp at the crank on roids, and i have never had a problem with my tranny EXCEPT my aftermarket trans brake selonoid had a piece of metal from manufacturing inside of it! but the aode itself has been great, could be a band man
