I have an adjustable cable, when it would give me trouble, I'd "open it up" then adjust it once installed on the fork.

Just take a pry bar and pull the fork towards you (the front of the car). You want to set the nut thats on the end of your cable so that after you put it back on the fork its only putting about 5 plb of pressure. You want your cable to be firm and not wiggle but not too tight. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more Q's

i always get someone else to push in the clutch and shove a block of wood in there before i take the cable off. makes putting the new on loads easier. in your case, a pry bar is your best bet like turion said. or you can try it the other way around and put it on the fork first and then the quadrant.

Yeah.. I usually use the pry bar that came with the car to pull the fork back, can adjust my adjustable cable by myself easily that way. Make sure your cable is routing through the bay correctly, too, and not hung up on your quadrant (if it has a double hook).

IIRC, I used a ratchet strap for that extra little bit. Just hook it to the k member and the fork, then ratchet what you need for the clearence.
