i ...still...dont know much about trans, but ill give this a shot
the clutch fork is what the cable connects to....right?
and the fork connects to....something...im assuming the clutch.... :angel4:
regardless, i am trying to find out what these deep thunking sounds are coming from, accompanied by a moderatly crappy idle, and...it feels like im towing a bouncing trailor at times, with it getting power and losing it. the wierd thing is that it goes away at WOT and the power/sound is obviously different, but the RPM's never change like they should if its bogged down...its similar to when the car drops into low rpms, like how it lunges slightly. except it happens when driving normally. GREAT!

at ANY rate, my question is as such:
when investigating the fork, it has like..atleast 2-3 inches of play. wouldnt that mean that whatever its connected to is broken or dislodged? causing my pedal to vibrate, and my car to seem like its slipping in and out of power?

oh, and i suppose its important to note.
i blew the old tranny due to a driveshaft ujoint failure about..a month and a half ago, and the tranny shop said if the old clutch was usable, they would do so. and they did. judging from the fork/cable cover (its beat to sh*t) i imagine the clutch took a smashing too.
so i dont really know what could be wrong. i figure if its powerful enough to fracture the bellhousing, the clutch yanno...MIGHT be hurt.
but what do you all think, is that amount of play bad, or am i just paranoid

EDIT: just an interesting side note, the part stamp says F6ZR-7515-BA
which is specific to the 96-04 clutch forks...hm. its always neat to find what others have done with this car.

whenever i put my new cable in the other day, with the cable off the fork, i could move the fork side to side about two inches. it wont remain tight like this, the cable presents tension, thats why you have to pull the fork foward when you install the cable.

..long story short i saw no problems with it.

like if i pulled on it, it would move toward me and away...so...up and down. after browsing about 6 other forums, it seems like that might just be the unlocking feature to remove it or whatever?
