clutch problems

i had my clutch replaced about 5000 miles ago with a centerforce clutch, and about 1000 miles ago my throwout bearing started chatterings when the clutch was depressed. yesterday (9-1-10) i got in my car to go to the store and i was going to shift into second and my clutch pedal felt weird and my clutch went out (wasnt able to get into second gear or any gear).. i let the car sit in neutral for alittle bit then tried to go into gears ago still nothing, so i pumped the clutch a few times and kept trying to get in gear, and eventually it went and i drove off, worked fine for alittle bit then did the same thing again where it wouldnt go into gear again, so i played with it alittle again and it worked fine then i parked it and havnt touched it today..

i read in other clutch threads that centerforce makes crappy tob's and i just purchased a ford oem tob since i herd they are better to use then any aftermarket ones, which im going to be installing this upcoming weekend, just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem and what could the solution be if u dont think its the tob making it do that??

honestly i have no clue.. i know nothing about the transmission/clutch setup.. i had a family friend who is a mechanic in florida change out my clutch last time..

how do i tell and i can check in the morning and get back to u on it?

This is very easy to check yourself. Jack up the car and look at the clutch fork where the cable goes through it. If the end of the cable has a threaded section and 2 nuts, it's an adjustable cable, the OEM just has a piece of metal at the end so the cable does not slip out of the fork. Once you have done that, pop the hood and look to see where your cable comes through the firewall, it's on the drivers side very close to the fender. If your clutch cable goes through a shiney or anodized mechanisim, then you have a firewall adjuster. Now stick your head under the steering wheels and look at the clutch quadrant, if its plastic then it's OEM, if metal then it's aftermarket and the clutch cable must be adjusted.

+1, beat me to it,

but thats the same exact thing that my car did a few days ago when my quadrant broke.. and its not even worth replacing with oem, get a quick release quadrant and firewall adjuster. i just ordered a upr kit for less then 50$ shipped.

If you're running a stock plastic quadrant on a centerforce clutch, its asking for trouble. Its probably deflecting and giving you inconsistent pedal travel and engagement. You can take off the clutch cable shield and inspect the throwout bearing with a light. If it looks like its not sitting right its probably trashed. You'll have to pull the tranny to replace it.

my clutch stopped working after taking a turn... my problem was the cable came off but that doesn't sound like your problem

yea its the stock plastic quadrant, and i didnt install the clutch myself, had a family friend install it, the throwout bearing is bad forsure due to i can hear it rattling and making the noise it makes when clutch is not pressed it....
where my clutch works and doesnt work, i have a feeling the quadrant piece or something is broken thats causing it to act like that.. i havnt had the time with work and all to check it out just yet but maybe tomorow ill finally have the time to get under and check.. ill keep you guys posted on what i find.. and i never know having a aftermarket clutch would affect anything since its pretty much just a standard replacement centerforce clutch and not upgraded one for more power
