i was surprised of how little effort it took to slid it into neutral. but it takes FOREVERR to let the rpms drop. like 3 seconds is how long i sit in neutral before the rpms drop so i can shift into the next gear.
it was cool. but i definitely didnt feel comfortable doing it. so i wont do it unless i need to.
one question: what is actually taking place in the tranny when you hear the gears grind?

The hangin idle, or taking a minute for the revs to come down is a common modular complaint, the sloution is reported on this forum a few times in the 2v section if it bothers you.
When your gears grind, it's because the teeth are trying to mesh, but can't. Synchros are like tiny clutches, the bring the gears up to speed for you and match speeds for you. That's why you may hear a whirring type sound on downshifts, especially into first. It's alos a weak link, the reason why big trucks don't use them.
J.R. said:Yes you'll wear them, but people like SRThandz also wear the stinky pile out of their synchros. In normal driving I typically don't downshift as a means of slowing myself ever. Brake pads are alot cheaper and easier to change.
J.R. said:No because once your already in gear the synchros do nothing.
FTS said:anybody tried it?
my cousin says he can do it in his saturn so i dunno.
ive seen that guy with the face paint do it. ive also heard its bad for your transmission. true or false?
uncltrvlnmatt said:You just have to know your shift points and be exact or it will grind pretty bad.
