Well, now I'm back to trying to decide what to do with my poor worn-out '98 V6 Mustang...

I just picked up a '95 Lincoln Mark VIII for dirt cheap the other day, and it has the 4.6L DOHC engine like the Cobra Mustang has (yes, I know there are some differences like the intake and cams, but it's basically the same engine).

Now I'm not sure whether I want to keep with my idea of putting my 5.0L H.O. I have sitting in my garage in my Mustang, or if I want to try and get a 6-speed manual for the Lincoln engine and stuff THAT in there instead.

What are your opinions on the matter? Eventually this car IS going to get a V8 swap. I just don't know which one now... The 5.0L is a more cost-effective swap and I can use the 5-speed I already have in the car. The 4.6L will obviously fit the k-member properly without modification, and I have the complete donor car, but I have to find a transmission and flywheel, PLUS any mods I want to do will be more expensive...

my friend swapped a 5.0 in his 96 v6 and had to rewire nearly the entire car. he had a donor as well

i say 4.6

and put Longtubes on it while it's out.

but then again, with the 4.6's, you need to swap brake boosters...

I'm sorta toying with the idea of going completely crazy and putting the 4.6 DOHC in my Jeep instead... Been wanting to do a V8 swap in it anyway (it's a 4cyl 5-speed now) and I haven't heard of anyone doing that particular swap yet...

put the 5.0 in the jeep and the 4.6 in the mustang because if you put the 5.0 in the car you'd have to do a lot of mods for itt to keep up with a 4.6 DOHC Mustang so Id definetly say go with the 4.6 swap cause then you've got 290hp instead of 215 or 225 what the 5.0s make

Yeah, I think this is exactly the way I'm going to go. 5.0HO in the Jeep and 4.6DOHC in the Mustang.

My factory K-member should already be set up to handle putting a 4.6 in there anyway, and I have a complete donor car.

Now all I have to find is a T-45 transmission, a flywheel and clutch set, and a beefier rear axle over my poor little stock 7.5...

you will be very happy with a 4v swap i.m.o. they feel a little torquier than their 5.oh counterparts it's more expensive to mod :dontknow: it's also newer technology you wouldn't put a flathead v8 in your stang, although that would be sort of cool... But I have to agree! 4.6 in your Stang 5.0 in your jeep!

Yeah, I'm not trying to put a T-45 behind my 3.8L... That would be just plain silly.

I need it to go behind my Mark VIII 4v 4.6L. My T-5 won't work, and wouldn't handle the power anyway even if it would.

The V6 still has the same bellhousing pattern as the 5.0L engines, where as the 4.6L has a completely different one. Unless they now make an adapter for it, you can't put a T-5 on a 4.6, and you can't use a T-45 on a 3.8L. The T-45 (I think) does not have a removable bellhousing like the T-5 does.

Also, a stock V6 T-5 won't be able to handle the power output of a 4v engine for very long. A lot of people claim they can't even handle the power of a moderately built 5.0L.
