Did you clear the codes afterwards?
Just the negative for about 15 minutes. This is the easy way and you will lose all the adaptive strategies in the KAM chip. THe SPOUT isn't a chip, it's just a jumper that opens the computer timing circuit which prevents the computer from altering the timing.

What mods are done to the motor?
How old is the tune up and when was the last time you cleaned the maf?

Mods are cold air intake, fresh tune from coil to O2 , clean MAF,. It has no cats , and I'm fixing to install BBK headers and off road X pipe and underdrive pulley, and was looking into pulling the EGR and smog pump

When I had 171 and 176 cleaning the MAF made them go away. Use MAF cleaner or alcohol and nothing petrolium based or carb cleaner.Sometimes CAI's can deposit oil on the MAF and cause an error.If you are running catless then your ok to remove the smog pump and no codes will pop up.No real good reason to remove the EGR.What is your timing set to?
