Hey guy I just bought a 99 cobra 5 speed and its going to need a oil change and read gear fluid changed out soon. Just wonderin If I should o with Conventional or Synthetic. Its going to be stored in the winter and only summer driven. I think the previous owner ran it on Conventional Quaker State. Also what kind of oil filter should I use? Thanks in advance

i suggest doing synthetic blend (since you know it has conventional now) then transfer to full synthetic on the next oil change and keep it on that.

congrats on your new cobra!

I've always had good luck w/ Motorcraft oils. My 95 had all the oil changes done at my dealership before it got traded in, I got it and continued w/ Motorcraft blend. When I took the top end apart at 120K it was perfectly clean. That really made me a believer. Synthetics are great too, but for the price and quality, Motorcraft blend is king.

Make sure you dont run a crappy Fram filter, always run Motorcraft. Where a Motorcraft uses metal, a Fram uses cardboard. Dont believe me cut one of each apart, the evidence is clear.

Motorcraft blend and an FL820 filter every 3k miles will get you where you need to be. They can be bought from Wal-Mart to Advance

I run convetional oil just because mine is a DD and I change the oil often. $70.00 oil changes every other month is to pricey. But I do run Royal Purple full synthetic in the rear.

Have you seen the tests Royal Purple goes through? They are unreal. Horsepower TV did a segment at the Royal Purple plant, pretty cool.

Working as at a dealer for the past 5 years, all the training we go though, all the new information and all the stuff I see. I have absolutly no reason to suggest the use of Synthetic oil in an engine if the Manufacturer doesnt suggest it. You wont see any engine failure because of it or prevented, not one person has yet to prove this. Change your oil ever 3k use FACTORY filters and call it a day.

Mobil 1 5w30 and MoCraft FL820-S here. Wouldn't run a mod motor on any other oil filter
