Hi all. I'm new to the 5.0 community. Just got a 94 GT coupe 5-speed.

Today I was driving on the freeway doing about 75 in 5th, then I noticed I started slowing down, then I saw the steam coming from my hood. (Probably my water pump) Anyways, I pulled it over, checked all fuses, my ignition and wires, everything, but the car refuses to start. I towed it home and I get 40psi on my fuel rail when the ignition is on, and used my timing light and I get spark. Any ideas on why it won't start? Thanks.

Are you getting spark all the way through the plugs? Like have you actually pulled it off and made sure it is sparking from them? So im guessing it is turning over just not starting all the way up? Sounds like you got one of the sensors all wet. Tps? Something on the distributor? I would check out all the sensors if you are getting spark and fuel.

You need to verify why your engine was blowing coolant. Maybe you blew a head gasket. It may be more serious a problem than just a water pump.

I was in my old thunder chicken *thunderbird* with the 3.8 and I had the same problem. It's kinda self explanitory if you can see the exhaust and it's blowing white smoke out and there's steam coming from underneath the hood, my 99% guess is a blown head gasket. pop ur plugs and spin it over see if you've got coolant in your cylinders. anyways.. maybe that helps.

Well,
I figured out why the car would not start. The coolant explosion ruined my MSD coil that looked quite old. Now to find the water leak.

The water pump went bad. Once the thermostat opens up, I get the overheating. Easy fix for a guy who used to own a Mercedes.
