Ok, so the car is a 97 gt with an 01 cobra engine. Just got it back together after overheating it and blowing a head gasket. Flushed the coolant system and burped it. Im running the gt radiator and fan. I took it out for a drive today, not getting on it the temps will rise to just under 210. It seems to stay there and won't come back down. I drove about 20 miles in 5th gear spinning just over 2k rpm's and it never came down past 205. It has a new thermostat in it, along with all new hoses. Any ideas?

sounds like the system has a leak, the cap is bad so it can't build pressure, theirs air in the system, or your radiator is clogged and coolant isn't properly flowing through.

I have no issues with cooling at all with my car, with the stock `97 radiator, stock temp thermostat, 4v motor. I can even run the A/C during 100* days while I'm at the track and it never goes over 200* :) Just a fwiw...

How would I check the cap? If i remove it, it makes a whoosh noise like the system is pressurized.. I burped the system and filled it from the crossover.. It looks like the small hose to the top of the reservoir may be leaking a little fluid

what degree thermostat is in it? what were the ambient temperatures outside that day?

180-210 degrees is normal. i have a 160* thermo with holes drilled in it, CXRacing radiator, stock fan thats tuned to come on early. I run 190* in the summer time and in the winter, sometimes as low as 150-160*.

if you have a stock thermo, id say your temps are normal.

Has anyone ever tried that Redline Water Wetter coolant additive? Suppost to drop temps about 15*

Its supposed to only be used with 100% water, no coolant, which I never bothered to switch my car to.. And you
lose the corrosion protection that anti-freeze offers..

water wetter has corrosion protection in it.

it's all I run in my `89, distilled water + water wetter.
