cooling trouble

ok guys when i drive my car for about 10 minutes, the radiator light comes on. never use to happen until out of no where one day.

the upper hose would be pressurized looking like it will burst. i check the coolant level and when i open the radiator cap, the fluid rises back up and fills the resevior again, and the hose is relieved of pressure

im not to sure what it is, or how to solve the problem, but im sure its something small. the car never over heats or anything, the light just keeps coming on and off every now and then. how can i correct this problem?

add some coolant, dont remove the cap. remove the thermostat housing and fill it there. that way it will work the air out of the system

Sounds like air in the system.... You need to bleed your system. Let your car warm up with the Coolant cap off and the heater on full blast.

right after i posted this i went out and let the car run with the cap off and the coolant level dropped then i filled it back up. i knew it was something so simple thanks for the responses

Our cars use a closed cooling system. Meaning, if filled to the proper lever, you should never be low on coolant. If you haven't recently done a cooling service of some kind, then you have a leak somewhere.

ok so found where the coolant is leaking from. i cant see to well but it looks like its coming from the bottom part of the water pump. it looked like it was dripping from around bolt on the bottom. its not a bad leak, maybe a couple drops on my driveway here and there, but i guess enough to keep making air pockets in my system.

could it just be a bad seal? or do i need a new water pump?

Put a new water pump on with a new gasket, kill two birds with one stone.

yeah thanks. thats the best bet i mean why not change it while its off, right. i didnt realize they were so inexpensive

may not be the water pump leaking...there is a weep hole on the pump if its leaking from there then the water pump is bad. Mine has a slow leak but its not the pump its actually the gasket for the timing chain cover, Leaking from around where the water pump bolts into the block. I just don't feel like taking all the accesories off to fix it.

yeah its hard to see exactly where its coming from maybe it is from the weep hole but im going to just buy a new water pump.

hopefully its just that and its not leaking from the timing chain cover gasket like yours
