Mine makes the same sound. I always thought it was the clutch making noise when it was cold. But now that I read SRT Handz post, I might have to try the starter. Mines been doing it for awhile though and I have never had a problem.

O/P, Just for the record you sig is incorrect. Your car was equipped with a T45, not a T5.

Yeah, I had M5 in my head when I wrote it, and it came out T5...I've been meaning to change it to T45

Yeah the starter was the other thing I was thinking of.

I figure it's probably one or the other. Would be nice to figure it out because it's embarassing because you can hear it from like 50 feet away lol.

I'm kinda worried about how much they are going to tear apart the interior to put the new ebrake cables in.

But damn I do love having a car that runs like the day it rolled off the line. Once I get those cables done, and this crackling sorted, I'll be good to go, hopefully for quite a while.

NO WAY That sound is timing chains. Timing chains on 4.6 motors dont make that noise.

I know this sound VERY well.

The sound is your starter not disengaging after start-up. so when the motor starts up, its spinning the starter teeth on the Flywheel or Flexplate before the starter disengages.

This sound started to happen to me right before my starter began to die. Starters dont last forever. I picked up a rebuilt OEM unit from the parts store and installed it. Now i dont have that sound anymore AND my car sounds like brand new when it starts up. Mustang guys always ask why way my car sounds so new on start-up, its cause the new starter lol.

I am willing to bet $20 its the starter.
Would be my guess also still. Starter.

I agree with handz 110% on this, my buddies 95' 5.0L F150 makes the EXACT same sound on start up, it's his starter not disengaging and we all know it, he is just too cheap to change it haha.

The lovely 3rd bolt on 4.6 starters is fun.. Handz very well might be right I barely listened to the video on my phone . But in all honesty how does the detailing god know what the fuck worn out timing chain tensioners sound like .. Just because you installed a KB doesn't make you a certified technician ... But I'd way rather try the 80 dollar starter route .

I am an apprentice tech, handz is correct on that though. It's the solenoid not disengaging, I'm honestly surprised it doesn't do it all the time, it happens every start up on that 95 f150. And you think that 3rd bolt is hard? Try working a DOHC 4.6L with longtubes, you can't get the starter out unless you drop the sub-frame :(.

I know all about working on 4v's with long tubes I own one plus I have my own shop gotta go back march and once i pass im a certified technician I never put the 3rd top bolt back in on my car . I always drop the k member when doing headers starter etc on modular cars it's the easiest way to do it.. I did a motor swap on a customers car then the D bag shows up at 5pm with long tubes and I had just got the motor back in what a **** ...

I don't know what a garage would charge to change your e brake cables as i done mine myself, but $600+ seems insane to have them replaced??

They only need to remove your centre console inside, really not difficult at all.

No it from another company I can't remember I got it from mopac it's the jegs or summit for Canada ... The plate the bolts go threw are made from a billet piece of aluminum you can rotate the nose cone depending on Clarence issues and stuff

I honestly don't think doing headers is possible without dropping the K-member, I was spoiled by my 302 where I could almost change them from the top of the engine haha

Yeah, that's what I'm curious about--if it's the starter, why is it only doing it on cold start? Shouldn't it do it every single time?

I dunno, the service manager showed me that and said it's probably high, there's usually "fluff" in that price so I'm expecting it to be a bit less.

Cars do stupid things man, there is no doubting that the sound in your vid is the starter solenoid staying engaged though.
